Even when I had the Holy Spirit, I was constantly sad and miserable. It was like being a caged animal. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Break free from the cage, and then REALLY comes the torture. What a sweet Jesus.

It sounds to me like you are an atheist that hasn't admitted it yet. You are on the right track and i hope you continue to stay on it.

Add me to that same opinion. I think you came here to see how others dealt with deconversion. Good choice.
Have you been saved damaged by Jesus the Cult?

Another thing for you to think about: Galatians 5:22 says: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Assuming that you were a member of such a tiny handful of the elect that had the holy spirit, how could you be sad and miserable instead of displaying the fruits of the holy spirit of joy and peace? --Especially given that if you could somehow identify that thousand or two most happy, at peace people in the world, they'd be awfully darn happy, content and serene.

The answer, of course, is that you had no indwelling of the holy spirit because there is no christian god, and therefore no holy spirit incarnation of the christian god. You were deceived and adopted a very widespread delusion. It does not make sense that your core premises about the christian god are correct (although we both know you cannot get a straight answer out of the bible) AND you had the indwelling of the holy spirit AND you were miserable even then.
Christianity: The belief that some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Actually, I remember times back then when I would be praying and worshipping God, and I would feel just like Jesus described about The Holy Spirit being like a fountatin of Living Water. Sometimes, it really felt like a waterfall spiritual coming down over me. I remember another time of feeling transfixed, with the Light of God radiating out from me. The Holy Spirit does give joy; that doesn't mean that our own spirit isn't contrary to it, or that those with God cannot be depressed.

I was not a very good Christian. Even from the start, I was always addicted to pornography. Didn't have sex until I was 24, although I certainly thought about it a lot. I even did sex chat online. I did pursue God hard though, but never tackled the not sinning part. Obedience is better to God than sacrifice, but I was thinking more of the sacrifice and less of the obedience. I was just so drawn in by sin and became numb to its effects, until I broke.

That is called being a male mammal. You are warm blooded. It's your nature. Don't hate yourself for the way you were born. You have the same kind of instincts as dogs, cats, hamsters, horses, and all other furry creatures.

It's not possible. Anybody who claims they don't "sin" (as defined by Christianity) is lying. However since God couldn't bother to give us any messages I woudln't worry about sin.

Or you figured out Christianity is not realistic. Keep at it your are beginning to understand.

There's an elegant solution to most Bible problems. The Bible is the word of men; men who sometimes didn't agree with each other and often didn't know what they were talking about.

Biblical Christianity is written to control people's minds. It's the original Christian cult that is imitated by every cult leader. It works only when fully believed. Then the guilt sets in, and your caught....hook, line, and sinker! You are suffering from an attempt to rip your humanity from yourself. You're no longer a whole human being, but a dissociated, guilt-ridden, prisoner to the propaganda of Suffering. It's all a Big Lie designed to debase your feelings and emotions through undeserved guilt. Undeserved, because no one and no thing in this universe is perfect. You were born human. Would you really want to be "as the angels" who are sexless, emotionless fantasies whose only purpose is grovelling?

No, you "broke" because you were given impossible orders to follow. The same thing (or something like it) happened to many of us or we would not be here. I walked the same road you are on now, and I was miserable the whole time. I may have been "alive in christ" but I was already dead as a person. Christianity gave me nothing and I just wanted the misery to end. Deconverting made me feel alive and truly free for the first time in my life.

What Xians refer to as "sin" is simply being human. Why do you think that all the good and pleasurable things in life are so often called evil? If you try to control and supress your human impulses, you may have some initial success but you will ultimately lose every single time. You then repent and try harder, only to fail again. Rinse and repeat. This drives you down in an emotional spiral until you either break free or kill yourself. Did the writers of the bible know this would happen? Of course they did, and they still chose to burden people down with this anyway. Physical or emotional pain is a blinding force; it can keep people from seeing clearly. I imagine they sought to create such constant mental distress in their followers in hopes of blinding them to the truth: That the church and its teachings are wrong and that you cannot understand life by following the christian religion. If a system has a 100% failure rate, would you blame the people who failed or would you blame the system? The religion has always been a money-making operation, and they had to have people constantly wallow in self-loathing to keep them from realizing that.

jasonother, I still think you need to go to an out-patient mental health clinic and tell them:
  • I have special knowledge about the elect that no one else has
  • I received a special message from a shooting star
  • I am obsessed with spiritual things, damnation, and religion
  • I am unique and part of the elect
  • I have special knowledge about the Bible and its interpretation
  • God speaks to me personally
They can help you!
Follow the evidence.

Wow, really? A shooting star? That means you're condemned to hell forever and forever? I have seen shooting stars throughout my life. It is not a "sign from god" that you're doomed to hopelessness. You just happened to see something neat! Thank science...

The whole issue at hand is that there are 17 different interpretations of the unpardonable sin and what it is, along with just about every other verse in the Bible.

If that's not fantastic evidence that Christianity is man-made baloney then I dunno what is.
