I'm thinking of buying the book "A History of God" by Karen Armstrong.
Have you read it? What are your thoughts?

I'm looking for a book about the origins of the old testament. Is this the right book, or do you know better books for that purpose?

Thanks in advance.

It is very dense I will say that, meaning it's not an easy read. But it is chock full of information that is for sure.

Didn't EviD3nc3 on youtube talk about this book?

I'm at work now so I can't check youtube to see. I think part of his deconversion came from reading that book.

Indeed. a big eye opener in his deconversion was reading how much of the Pentateuch borrows from the Enuma Elish, which modern textual criticism places at a full 1000 years before Genesis. I would never have heard of the book if not for Evid3nc3.

Thanks for the reactions. I bought the book today. Looking forward to reading it.

I like that. I'm a "skip the chit-chat, give me the facts" kind of person. Posted Image

Hopefully not too long. I burnt my groin on a microwave meal- pasta with a tomato-based sauce, just for added effect. I do everything in style lol. I get the dressings changed today, hopefully I'll get an idea of how long I'll have to wear them for. It's more awkward than anything else now, so unless it's really hurting, I'll probably just start easing up on the bastards.

What kind of meds do you take? Are you high or sleepy?
My dad once had to use morphine for a back injury and he absolutely loved it. Sleeping like a log all day long.

I bought it a little over a year ago. I have read about 100 pages and hope to complete it.....one day. It is a difficult read but, yes, it is full of info. I would love to see her notes, or at least an exhaustive list of her sources. That said, I really don't need them. It was enough for me to know that I no longer believed and that God is a construct of man. At least bible god is. I am left amazed that she herself is not an atheist. Maybe if I finish the book I will understand how and why she can still believe on some level.
