And this fellows is the reason why I rejected my Word of Faith upbringing and one of the reasons why I eventually rejected god all together.

I fully understand the brainwashing which these parents had and I hope that while in prison they realize how wrong they were and how full of it their old pastor was. But sadly like pentecostal snake handlers they'll never really learn.

For anyone, ANYONE, who has a problem letting go of their faith because they are dealing with fear of hell or whatever other reason, this and the hundreds of other waiting-for-faith-healing-that-never-comes deaths should be all the evidence you need that the bible and Jesus' divinity are bullshit. The bible could not be more clear on this issue. I'm not quoting Moses or Paul. I'm quoting Jesus:

Matthew 7:7-10
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened."
9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him."

Matthew 15:28
28 “Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed."

Matthew 17:19-20
19 Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”
20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.[d]

Jesus as he is quoted is a liar. He says over and over that all you need is faith to receive healing. Healing never comes. These people have faith so strong they are willing to let their children die. Faith healing, the bible, and Jesus are all bullshit. End of story.

Honestly I don't understand it. No matter how much faith you have there has to be something mentally wrong for you to WATCH YOUR PAINING CHILD and do the most useless thing human kind has invented. "The hands that help are far better than the lips that pray." -Robert Ingersoll

It is also a sad study in the natural selection process carried out by the parents of their offspring. They selected it to die. In the animal world, offspring are often left to die on their own.

The parents should have removed themselves from the gene pool before producing children they will eventually kill off. It looks like we aren't that bright as a species....

This is pathetic, and yet freeasabird is right: this is exactly what the Bible says, and exactly where this line of thinking ends up. My husband's aunt is a Word of Faith adherent. She recently died of a very curable form of cancer, because she was believing that God would heal her, just like the Bible promises. She didn't live to see her daughter marry and give birth to her first grandchild. How sad is that?

Word of Faith belief is a thief. It robs us of rational thought, of our health, and our families/children....not to mention our money. Posted Image

If I recall correctly, we had one case like this in SA years ago and the outcry was from both theists and the godless. It is criminal to not afford your kid medical assistance where it is possible. Then again we do not have these extreme sects here. I also think most clergy here will advise parents to seek medical help, they pray for the doctors in attendance and give glory to gawd.

The only folk that seem to be over the edge here are the black folk with their crap in witchcraft and using babies for mootie (medicine) and that gets them prosecuted and put away.

This is blindness and false hope at its worst. I hope the parents get help and realise what they have done!

Go, run like the wind, and the sun will rise in the morning. The golden moment is yet to come, and anything can happen. Everything and anything is possible. Just needs time. Even time is not a barrier. What can the harvest hope for, if not for the care of the Reaper? Or for the Gardener? Life, life, life.

I feel really bad for that kid. The idiot parents can destroy themselves with their beliefs if they want, but when it causes others to suffer they must be made to answer for it.

The limits of freedom of religion are reached when religious practices cause harm to another. Such a terrible and preventable tragedy. And the worst thing is that freeasabird is totally correct. There is biblical justification for the parents' belief that prayer is all that was necessary. It makes me glad that many Christian groups have watered down their religious beliefs by doing what LivingLife says, people get their children to doctors and then pray that the doctors are able to save their loved ones. It's why I don't complain about Christians who continue to reinterpret their Bibles in light of modern science - it can be lifesaving.

Well, I would hope so too but you need to read the article. They're not going to prison. They're getting off scot-free.

Damn right there needs to be a federal law. Can't believe we let this shit happen cause we're afraid of infringing on "religious liberties." Well guess what fuckers, your "liberty" extends to you and you alone, and denying that kid medical care was murder I don't care how you slice it.

On the bright side, if the parents get ill, they'll probably choose to suffer through the same unimaginable pain before death that their son did because of their faith.
