What a faith booste; many of these people actually get bit by copperheads and rattlesnakes and are completely fine. Too bad no one told them that many pit vipers dry bite (do not inject venom) and their faith goes through the roof. I wonder if they moved to the congo or south africa and did the same thing with black mambas if they would last long?
And old guy I know back in Tennessee told me that he had been bit by copperheads plenty of times, and it didn't amount to much more than a bee sting. Said he would just put some kerosene on the bite and go on.
I don't see why a small rattlesnake would be much different.
But you won't catch me testing that theory directly. I kill those things every chance I get.

We all know the answer to that one I guess.
I just wonder what cover-up story exactly their fellow morontheists will tell at home about why they "suddenly passed away". They'll probably make it either a heroic death in service to da lawd or a fatal attack by ebil saaataaanist athiests or such.
Or both, now that I think about it.

A lot of these snake handlers die from the bites, just do a web search for it.
Oh, I knew that. I wasn't trying to suggest that they all do it, just that I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them are in a desperate attempt to win converts by 'proving' the truth of scripture.
I have to say though, even when I was a Xtian, I knew this was total bullshit. I could never understand how someone could knowingly endanger the lives of themselves and others just because of one passage in the Bible. What's really tragic is that children have actually died because of these assholes poor judgment, and yet they continue to do it, sometimes illegally.

funny how they only follow the bit in the bible about snake bites, and not the bit about swallowing poison. hydrochloric acid anyone?
If I recall correctly, people at the same church where the guy was recently fatally bitten would also drink strychnine. I don't know how concentrated the stuff is, but it still shows that people are batshit insane enough to follow that bit, too.

Maybe they milk the snakes before handling them?Your mention of dry bites makes me wonder if some of these churches are just pulling a scam and using snakes with their venom glands surgically removed. Either way, I think these morons need to take a closer look at the story of the temptation of Jesus.

Cynical as it is, I'd like to say that's one for evolution

exactly what my husband said last night when we looked this passage up. He wondered why they don't try poison. I think we've been watching too much Breaking Bad.

This is really weird shit and I have to ask how they get away with it as far as animal rights laws. My wife is with the SPCA and here in our town, if you want to have a snake as a pet or to breed or breed to export, you need permits and a visit from the regional parks board fella to ensure you have a cage that conforms to regulations. Owning or keeping indigenous animals here is illegal w/o the correct paperwork and protocol.
Pshaw. Like Christians care about the LAWS OF MEN. THERE IS REVIVAL TO BE HAD HERE, DON'T YOU GET IT

They drink strychnine also, but from what I understand a trace of strychnine makes water extremely bitter; so they are probably drinking very small amounts, but the strong taste makes them think differently. Thus giving a "supernatural experience" to boost their faith.
