A contradiction with vegetarians (Daniel) and Paul dissing vegetarians.
Lost an aunt in 97. Went to church, but not super religious, however a very very good caring person,. I cannt accept she would be in torment if she did not accept christ as some churches profess.
Back to the truth saves egypt being a wasteland where no one dwells and damascus being destroyed

If constantine would have lost in 312AD, christianity would not have grabbed hold.

It's not fun. Too bad it just didn't exist so we wouldn't have to go through this.
Good luck.

Also, I have realized for the past few yrs that the catholic / protestant fued was nothing but politics which started centuries ago with england vs spain. Also, the horrid past of the church: inquisition, witch burnings, ministers in the 1700s / early 1800s saying slaves should not be preached to etc

Not a disbeliever, but a serious questioner, mainly about christianity.
There are stacks of knowledgeable people here, who have experienced Christianity in its different forms, and have lived to tell the tale.
I got to a point where I had to be true to myself, this wasnt easy as I had invested so much emotionally in a belief system, a cherry picked Christianity I had created. I also lost the social side of being in a choir, and lost touch with a number of Christian friends.
But it is liberating to be a free thinker and take up other interests on Sunday outside of church. I look back and wonder now why I believed in what I did for so long.

When you are in religion your eyes to the universe and its wonder are clouded. Even if you think you can appreciate the universe as a theist, you really cant understand how amazing it truly is. Deconverting is hard, very hard and it wont get easier until you are able to move on. If you lose your faith, YOU MUST NOT hold a grudge. When you loose your faith you will become angry, as everyone does but you must not harver hate or it will kill you inside.

It's always been about politics, economics and sociology. Everything people want to attribute to a 'god-thing' is better explained in those terms. politics = people wanting power, economics = people wanting money, sociology = people wanting to gain status (or to belong). They're all related and no god is needed.
I wish you luck as you sort our all your questions. I hope you find peace once the dust settles.

Yeah. In kinda in that anger phase right now. I guess I should be over it all but it's tough. I find myself , at least internally if not all the time externally, joking and making fun of xians and xianity. I'm not like that an I dont want to do it and I feel bad about it- but it does release some pent up steam. Deconversion sucks. Bit it's for the greater good I think.

The thing that helped me get over my anger of christianity was actually to consult a theologian on the matter.

The only reason that the reformation survived was because the German kings defended Martin Luther because the demise of the catholic church would give more power to them. Also Martin Luther was an extreme anti Semite and wrote a book on the subject, most Christians today would roll over and die if they knew that the christian church was anti jewish.
For calvanism, John Calvin was a tyrant who killed one of the worlds best scientist and terrorized his people he ruled over.

The catholic church claimed that the jewish people were guilty of deicide for several hundred years. And that was official policy.

I'm still wading through that too. I'm trying to get back to some empathy and remember how sincerely I believed everything that they still do. But it's tough. You feel deceived and used and you want to lash out...

Anger is supposed to be the last stage tho right? Before acceptance? I hope so. I don't get depressed about "not having god" but I do over other stuff sometimes.
I really think I was "not a true xian" in a lot of ways. The dissonance always kept me from going "all in".

Take your time, and do your reading and your research. This is your personal journey. On youtube, Evid3nc3 has a series of short videos that detail his deconversion, titled Why I am No Longer A Christian. You might want to look into that- he does a very good job of explaining his reasons for leaving christianity.
Hugs, Pudd
