Sierra Nevada now cans their IPA. Newcastle Brown Ale is widely available in cans, as is Fat Tire.
O Brave New World, that hath such canned beers in it!

I don't like that aluminum-ey taste tho.
Cans have come a long way. Pour it in a cup and you won't know the difference.

Is this a relatively new phenomenon over there? We've had beer in cans as far back as I can remember here.
Good beer in cans is a new thing here. Of course you have long had access to Toohey's and Foster's and Castlemaine in those big liter cans. Here, canned beer was cheap beer, pretty much.

Aussies don't drink Foster's.
I've never seen a litre can of beer- they're the same size as a soft drink can over here.

I have heard that (Aussies do not drink Fosters). It is a marketing gimmick to sell in the states (likewise, they do not have grey goose vodka in france, itis an export item). Basically, the standard US beers suck (for the better ones) to really really suck. Sierra Nevada and sam adams are microbrews and quite good. My favs are stella artois and anything from Lagunitas brewery in CA or Southern Tier brewery in NY

Definitely key. Want to know how bad aluminum tastes? Rinse your empty can out, fill it with plain water and drink. Blech.

Aussies don't drink Foster's? Day-um. I can't believe the mendacity of those ad bastards. Please tell me you eat vegemite and say "G'day". And cook shit on the barbie.

Love Vegemite. On crackers, toast, or crumpets. Sometimes I'll even eat it with cheese. I say "G'day". And christmas this year will a barbie at the beach.
Calm down, Ro-Bear and McD. We're not a complete marketing gimmick

Fosters was originally made by two American brothers. It was the first lager beer made in Australia. The brand was taken over by Carlton United Breweries way back when. But yeah, in later years it's been more of an advertising stunt than a beer. Sort of like claiming Budweiser was the only beer in the US. I don't know much about American beer but I bet if I said that I'd be accused of blasphemy at the very least!

Yeah, it's kind of socially unacceptable to drink Foster's, hey lol. You'd pretty much get laughed out of the pub

Beside's the above microbreweries and brewpubs, Victoria is stacked with excellent pubs that serve a variety of local and imported beers. We're spoiled for choice. Many of the products of these fine craft breweries are available in cans.
come up to Victoria BC sometime ;-)
