*cough* state-sponsored religion *cough*

Two words of horror... church tax (that citizens have to pay for the church, not the church to the state). Equals one huge horror.

Debussy didn't believe in God. He didn't believe in the establishment. He didn't believe in burgeois convention. He didn't believe in Beethoven or Wagner. He believed in... Debussy.

They cannot force you to pay for churches in the USA but they make it advantageous as there is a sizable tax deduction for it. If there were no income tax, I suspect that churches would not be so prosperous here. There would be no deductions for tithes or offerings and thus with no incentive, they might just dry up and blow away......Posted Image

Actually....come think of it...churches are 501-C3 corporations...that makes them an arm of the government.....it would be interesting if somebody say...the ACLU or some athiest organization decided to challenge the deductiblity of church offerings and the state support of religion because of the corporate structure which takes government to support it thus making it a GOVERNMENT CHURCH...you could then challenge the laws based...(NAWWWWWWW).....FREEDOM OF RELIGON.........Hmmmmm......Posted Image

I can imagine my parents advocating this even though they haven't been to church in nearly a decade.

I like that idea BO - would also make for some interesting faces among the morontheists. I could imagine quite a few would rejoice at first hearing about what to them would have to sound like (at last!) the merging of church and state... only to then learn that it won't be them calling the shots :lmao:
