Ha! Did they move it at last?

Saw an asshole tear-assing around my neighborhood pulling a pair of ten-year-olds on a sled with a rope like 6' from his SUV's rear bumper yesterday, and I thought of you guys.

Welcome to Idaho.

We used to use snow mobiles for this though.  An SUV with a short rope sounds pretty bad.  Just consider it a Darwin Award waiting to happen and go about your business. :)

We had a sense of community, for instance, when we lived in downtown DC.  Ironically, when we moved out to the suburbs we found the exact opposite.

I can totally relate to that.  We are too isolated in the suburbs..., and in our cars... and on our computers...

Can I ever identify with this. I moved into downtown from a more suburban area and found it's more like the rural community where I used to live earlier in my life. People say hello to strangers and Merry Christmas just because it's the decent thing to do. One day my friend from suburbia was here in my driveway. I didn't see it but she told me about it. She said this person walked by with a dog and said hello as though they knew her. She seemed almost shocked as though there were something wrong. I told her that's the way people do in this neighbourhood.

Obviously, there's exceptions because some people are by nature less social than others but it seems to be the general way of things.

A distant relative of mine died that way. The truck ended up stopping too fast to avoid something and the one being towed kissed his bumper.

And yes.. they moved it :)

Not afraid of it, disgusted by it. Sick of the shallowness, the greed, the worship of morons who do nothing, the tacky moronic entertainment that spews out of it, the constant excuses for cruelty and lack of empathy when it comes to some of the country's most vulnerable people, willingness to jump into other countries and start stupid wars, the way murder is called collateral damage, the way america has backed the military of certian regimes to overthrow goverments to protect american financial interests and on and on and on. Other than than I don't have a problem with it.

Of course you alone are the best judge of your motives, but the extreme nature and sheer number of your anti-American comments leads me to believe its fear.  Look at the list of stuff in this paragraph alone.  You have plenty of problems with America and you seem to take it all very personally, yet you don't even live here.

Galien is probably just the only non-American on this thread who is expressing these anti-American sentiments. I do not think anti-Americanism applies to the RV situation. American individuals, in my experience, are people like everyone else in the world. Galien has demonstrated that she would handle the RV situation exactly like anyone else, American or not, if she were in the exact situation JW found himself. The point of this post is that Galien's fear is probably justified, as is that of the rest of us who fear for our personal welfare in light of what the US is doing to the world in terms of military and economic power. As stated, in my view this is off-topic for a thread about an illegally parked RV, which is why I did not address it earlier.

Now that things re the RV have settled down...

Galien, if you find yourself becoming upset from talking with people on the internet, you may wish to focus your attention elsewhere. PTSD and some other health issues can get worse when we engage in this kind of faceless online discussion. As I'm sure you know, delegates from all of our countries are working with the Americans (and with each other) to deal with these huge world issues. As citizens, our responsibility is only to elect officials in our own countries (prime ministers, etc.) who will then work at home and internationally.

I know this is little consolation for those of us who don't trust our own government but there's not much else one can do. Waging internet wars solves nothing. Only Americans get to vote for their president even though the results impact the lives of everyone else on the planet. Those are the rules.

However, our American exC friends as individuals cannot be held responsible for their country's government policies any more than you or I are personally responsible for the policies of our countries. As individual human beings living on Planet Earth, all of us can support each other as we figure out how to survive the problems of our personal lives like blocked views and religious prejudices.

Does this make sense and sound fair to all?

Im just surprised this thread has taken that many turns-- from an RV- to property rights- to imperialism- to revenge- to the justice system- to prison- to cavity searches- to Rank is an asshole- to lawsuits- to whats wrong with Americans- to it was illegal to begin with. Im sure I missed stuff as I didn't review the whole thread, but it was a twisted road indeed

I checked out for a few pages myself, but I like the twists and turns we make in our threads overall. smile.png

I agonized over what to do about the SUV. I don't have kids and didn't grow up around snow, so gauging how dangerous this activity is doesn't come naturally to me. In the end, I did end up calling the non-emergency number for the police after I checked with a friend with kids who used to live in a snowy area who instantly said that was what she'd do. She had a very convincing argument for intervention. The police took it very seriously. They thanked me very much for reporting it and asked me to please report it more quickly if I see it again, and try to get plates/makes/models/etc. If someone thinks that means I'm a bitch for doing this, I've got a finger they can swivel on.

Never feel bad about reporting something dangerous like that. That school yard 'don't tattle' bullshit can get people killed. Im not quick to call the police for most things-- but when it comes to people endangering the lives of others I will do it without a second thought. You did the right thing.

The danger of that isn't always obvious until you realize that the sled has no brakes and the bumper sits almost at head level for some vehicles. At 30 mph it could take their head right off.  Even going slow can impale them with the exhaust pipe.

What is this "snow" you speak of?

34hi1hy.jpg

That was then.

This is now--The Snowman that Was:

For once, the weather forecasters were right. We had a bit of rain and relentlessly warm weather--up to 50F with no overnight freeze. He toppled over between five and six o'clock Friday evening right after dark. By late this morning all traces--including knitted scarf and hat--were gone.

It's not what you do, say or write.  It's that you are an American.  Americans are pure evil no matter what.  If you don't agree then it's because you won't listen because people are not allowed to criticize America (even though I just did).  See?

Good job with the SUV!  Yeah, if you call it in then the driver might hate you but on the other hand his kids won't die.  I would rather have a stupid person hate me than let a child die.

There's an elegant solution to most Bible problems.  The Bible is the word of ignorant men who couldn't agree with each other.

How on earth will they fit it with their two SUVs? Because of course they're a two-SUV family.
