This is one of the most common topics I see around here, so I figured maybe we should centralize what resources we can find. CAVEAT: Most of this is experiential in nature, and not necessarily research-based as there has been almost no actual research on the topic. And you are so right...we have many new members that are non-believers living with a believer and it is a dilemma that always needs to be discussed. We are talking about people's marriages here!! I was just thinking today about a young couple who are good friends with my wife and me, both of whom are Xtians. I mean they are as nice a couple as you could ever know. And it made me think that we ex-Xtians must be very careful to encourage non-Xtians to make their marriages to Xtians work despite the differences in religion. We should not be too hasty to be hard on the Xtian spouse who may very well be a good person. Most Xtians are actually good people who merely have been deceived. If anyone must break up a marriage because of religion it should normally be the Xtian, not the non-Xtian, except in unusual cases. I think that whether or not a couple stays together is completely up to the parties involved, and in many cases divorce may truly be the best option. But I agree that we can't be too hasty either way. De-converting is a life-changing experience in and of itself. No need to throw divorce into the mix right away.
