Goodbye Jesus

Christian To Wicca

Hello! I'm Cianna Johnson. I take interest in music, poetry, stories ect. As the title applies I am a former Christian becoming wiccan. I considered Christianity too dangerous a religion to work by. I still believe in Jesus but not the religion created in his name. I'm now interested in wicca, a beautiful religion that promotes peace, love, happiness and environmentalism. If you don't mind me asking, why did you leave Christianity behind?

I left because I came to see that there is no evidence that the claims of Christianity are true, and no reason to believe its promises.

Hi Cianna. Welcome to ExC. Your choice of taking up Wicca sounds interesting. If you would like to discuss issues related to Wicca, you may want to post on a protected forum called, Ex-Christian Spirituality.

I left Christianity because it no longer made sense to me. There are probably as many reasons for our members to have left the religion behind as there are members.

Christians limit their beliefs to just the bible, which I once did. Now I use spiritual practices, like meditation and lucid dreaming.

Hi faith, Christianity is based on fear and control, that is why I left.

Yes, you are right. That's what that religion is all about. You made a wise decision to leave it behind.

When I started to take it somewhat seriously and after thinking about it, I disagreed with too many of its teachings and philosophy.  I took what made sense of the teachings with me and moved on. I may look into it more from a gnostic point of view, but my path has changed.

Seeke001 that's what I think. I only believe that only some of the bible's teachings are true.

And that's a perfectly acceptable path to take, Cianna. There's no rule here that says you HAVE to take the path of XYZ or you're not welcome here. You're not alone in trying another religion after leaving xtianity behind. Some members here have returned to the religions they grew up with after they left christendom, others have gone the route of the pagan religions. This is your journey, and what's right for you right now may feel a bit differently later on. Only time will tell, and only you can decide that for yourself.

You might find the spirituality board here helpful too. PM one of the mods here, and they'll give you access to it if you haven't already.

Thank you milesaway, I thought about not joining a religion but decided that wicca was suitable for my likings.

Was sick of the guilt, shame and fear instilled by church life. I like the general pagan attitude of 'do your own thing' and studied Wicca for a while then took a left turn into chaos magick. :-) Thought forms (my word for Gods, Goddesses, Spirits) may be interesting to work with but I dont really like worshiping them. Rather just be a friend to them. Enjoy your Wicca.

I left when I realized that the idea that god had a plan for me was actually a lie.

Hi, Cianna. Christianity fell completely apart for me after reading the Bible through in a year. It took a while but eventually reached the conclusion that the Bible cannot be used to prove any one Christian point of view about a given subject. Throw in the Christian re-defining of the word "messiah" and the completely non-Jewish idea of sacrificing a human for the sins of others, and the whole works vs. faith problems -- it was all over with for me.

Am glad you are enjoying Wicca. I call myself "pagan" because from what I can find, the most modern definition of that word indicates that one does not believe in the god of Abraham or anything that follows from him. I do follow the cycles of nature more than I used to. After being a part of Christianity that totally regulated every aspect of my life, I tend to be more of a loner, and shall I say - practice my own path?

Welcome to Ex-C.

Welcome to Ex-C Cianna.  I am glad you are out of Christianity and found another path that is helpful to you.  Christianity was putting me in a box  and I am not the kind of person that likes that!  I also found too many contradictions in Christianity that I could not reconcile.

I identify the most with Buddhism, but also enjoy Advaita Hinduism (which is very close) and get a lot of inspiration and validation of my life experiences with these paths. I like mysticism and enjoy thinking about life in a more nondualistic way.

Welcome!  I, too, have found Wicca very useful over the years (I actually currently have a rather idiosyncratic blend for my own Pagan path).  It was actually a random encounter that ended up with me at a Wiccan circle (three other people, a conventional Wiccan, Celtic recon, and a person with a rather interesting relationship to a few Aztec deities), and was what finally gave me the kick to completely break with Christianity.  Ran into what I could only describe as a manifestation of divine energy and suffice it to say, I wanted to both know and feel more.  It also set off a chain of events that got me to be a lot more honest with myself.

Most excellent that you've found something that works for you, and welcome to ExC!

Hi Cianna! I left Christianity after ardently following for about 32 years, after I found a trusted pastor friend making up stories about amazing miracles he was famous for. It was the crack that started me questioning, and my questions led to my mind finally seeing through the myth of Christianity. Then the world opened up to me and the fear that had consumed me was gone, replaced with curiosity. My wife took me to a crystal shop, and I found myself instantly gravitating to the pentacle rug in the Wiccan book section. I felt a vibe that was like home, or being hugged by my mother. I felt it every time I went there. I never really have embraced the practices, but the symbols and concepts of Earth spirituality seem to resonate with me. I know a few witches and love them to death! I have a few forms that I practice when I feel a need for structure, but mostly I try to listen and feel energy, which occasionally seems to have a personality behind it. Once that took the form of an Egyptian deity, which was quite surprising since I have never been drawn to that culture, preferring a Celtic or Norse flavor. So much to learn and explore!

Merry meet Cianna! I'm a former Wiccan and now mostly a general pagan in lifestyle.

I left Christianity because I became fed up with the lack of understanding, the elitism, the arrogance, the corruption, the bigotry, the jerkassery, and the outright stupidity and lunacy of organized religion and the people that follow it. I pretty much I studied the Bible cover to cover and realized that the vast majority of Christianity and the people who follow it are not spiritual and have no clue what their own book is even talking about.

Blessed be.
