Macro Pictures

Amazing! I do things like that, but my photos never turn our as good as yours!

If you have a smart phone, Amazon sells attachments to produce a macro lens for the cell phone camera.

I actually use a canon camera, but I'm very bad at photography. I've taken SOME good photos, but that is rare.

Canon is excellent for macro photography. Just takes practice. Digital photography saves me a lot of money on film because I take around 500 to 600 pictures a day and only a fraction of those are usable -- the critters are constantly on the move or windy days make blurry photos. I like photographing live animals, including insects. More interesting having monsters climbing all over the place instead of stuck to a piece of cardboard. I save specimens to photograph through the winter too.

HereticZero, ..... Do you photo people up close?

Some times I get close with a photo to people but not very often. My lens work about 9 inches max from the subject and many people think that's a bit too close. I do take photos of friends and neighbors if they want. I was asked to do a wedding before, different kind of lens though. I used to like taking pictures of people in black and white film.

My latest effort is called 'Cicada Emerging'.

A sample from over 300 photos. My son came across the cicada about to hatch so I grabbed my camera. The process was less than ten minutes, a guess as it did not take very long.

Excitement is building on my Cicada Emerging shoot. I may know something before long?

My photos are circulating. Might be published, might not. I'm not holding my breath. The only one that has to be satisfied with my work is myself.

An experiment, a little blurry but it worked out ok with the equipment I've got. I was trying to get detail from a preying mantis eye.

You can use software to enlarge areas. Some pictures are better smaller rather than larger.

I cropped and enlarged part of the same picture as the one above to emphasize the jaws of the mantis. They have whiskers.

Some pictures are better focusing on individual parts rather than a whole.

I don't what leaves an egg case like this in a tree? Tree frog maybe? Strangest thing I've seen so far.

attachicon.gifDSC_0004.JPG

Update: Not an egg case. I is sap from my tree due to predation by insects.

Anise. I grow it for flavoring in baking and making home made beer. And I also grow it to attract bees and other critters.

I believe the butterfly is called a 'Gray Hairstreak'? The butterflies use their fancy tail to confuse predators, mimic frightening big eyes.

Preying mantis looking for a place to lay her eggs. Then possibly munch on the male on her back.
