Thank you Jeff. It's so good to see where you are at. You have come such a long way my friend since I've known you.

Thank you for writing such a wonderful letter in memory of Robin Williams..... one of our favorites who just couldn't find any more joy from life. I have also been grieving him all day. This is a beautiful letter. Depression and mental illness should be discussed openly, I agree. Why are we so ashamed about it? When did the stigma start that if you suffered from any mental illness, you should be ashamed? Why do we feel this way? We need to be open and talk about it so we may help one another. You've helped me and I thank you for giving me strength through sharing your own struggles.

Great post, Brother! Sounds like you're leading a great life now and I'm happy for you.

My thoughts about Robin Williams is along the same lines. His life, his choice.

Brother Jeff - wondered where you had disappeared to (unless it's just that I've somehow missed seeing your posts lately).

I watch little T.V. and was only vaguely aware of Robin Williams; your comments however are insightful for any suffering such problems.

This site has considerably greater colour with you around.

To add:

I have suffered from OCD for years, sometimes it was so bad I had to be treated in hospital. my OCD almost certainly was caused by a fear of God. Thanks to writers such as Carl Sagan, Robert Green Ingersoll and Charles Bradlaugh, I managed to fight the worst of it off. I am never really truly free of it, but I have learnt to survive. As Jill Valentine says "Somehow I am still alive" : )

Your desire to help others is a noble one.

All the best

Thanks so much for all of your thoughtful, awesome responses. I truly wish that mental illness was discussed more and much more openly than it currently is. I don't pray, of course, but my thoughts are with Robin William's family and friends. Survivors of suicide are always left with incredible grief and the hell of wondering what they might could have done that could have made a life-saving difference. Not just grief, but survivor's guilt. It's absolute hell all around... but maybe some good can come from such a tragic death. Maybe, just maybe, William's death will open up much needed dialogue on mental illness and the unbearable suffering that depression causes so many people...

Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope maybe this will help people to open up a bit more about their own depression.
