Goodbye Jesus

Benny Hinn. Let The Bodies Hit The Floor

Recommended Posts

Benny Hinn came to Singapore in the 90s, i went with my friend (still a christian), but i din't remember that episode much, not because i was knocked out, but simply no memory of that at all.

We were few of the attendees that left standing when the bodies hit the floor. We could not feel the spirit moving.

So hello exCs, how many did attend Benny Hinn's spirit nights and got slained in the spirit....

Come on, own up truthfully,,,,, hahahaha

Were you part of the fallen or the last men standing?

I've never attended his shows, but I knew someone who said she was healed by him.  I asked what was she healed from, and she said "drug addiction" as she was passing me the bong and her lungs were full of pot smoke.  I literally burst out laughing and said, "well he did a piss poor job!"

She was serious though.  She smoked pot like Tommy Chong but insisted Hinn cured her of "devastating addiction".

Lol. I've never been to a church service quite like that. I think if I was there watching others being "spiritually moved", it'd creep me the hell out.

I love drowning pool though. Funny video, thanks for sharing.

I attended a service once, about 35 years ago. He was a special speaker at a church, so it was just him and not a whole team. I remember very little of the service. One thing that sticks out though was his insistence that there be no noise, like babies crying, because it would disturb the holy spirit. I suspect that was actually a necessary aspect of mass hypnosis - babes crying would break the mind control he was exercising over the crowd.

Never went to one of those but at the Church I attended before having my first crisis of faith and left (unfortunately not for good...but that's another story) was crazy for this stuff. There have been worship services with other churches at our building and I attended with my friends from youth group. After singing a few songs the pastor went on stage and said something like: OK, now we go over to the practical part. Lets put all the chairs away and get started. I had no idea what was to come...but it was a very strange atmosphere. Next everyone started to pray and sing in tongues...except for me and maybe some others who where confused...not playing the game. And then people started to build groups and pray for each other, falling on the ground or acting crazy in other ways...I felt like I accidentally got into a freak show...and I felt fear. My Grandma was part of this whole thing too and came to me to ask if she could pray for me. I said no. She insisted and I insisted too. So she told me that I insisted because of the devil...yeah, right...but then she left me alone but telling someone else to come to me and ask me if I wanted prayer. I said no again and then left for the bathroom crying. And met some other girl crying too. That night we became friends and just left the crazies and hopped on a train to another place, having a beer and some cigarettes at a hard rock cafe. Funny, it has become the place we went often after this because there was no one of those crazy folks from church...and it felt cool to be there. We where nineteen then. And she is still my friend. It was the start of a very painful and difficult time and I often think it would have been good if I just left it all. But through her I got to know other Christians who where different and...

It's the power of beliefs and the brain that has been brainwashed. The beliefs are then stored and are completely ready for a cult leader like Benny to take them out of their ordinary lives and give them the thrill of the highest, hysterical emotional experience.... that they've been touched by god himself. Been there-done that many, many times. It's all high emotion. This is how Fundi's grow their congregations.

Our pastor was a lot like Benny. We couldn't get to church fast enough on Sunday nights where all the 'healings' took place. It was the most intensive atmosphere. Exactly like being on drugs. People want the thrill of the 'high'. I did anyway. I'm a bit of an addict, so Pentecostalism was perfect for this little drama queen........

Benny was one of my favorites. Now he looks like a fool to me. Imagine poor Susie having to put up with living with god himself?? No wonder she left him at one point....

I've observed Hinn on television. He's been to my area several times. Huge crowds.

I did attend a Ernest Angley Miracle Service. I just wanted to see this medicine show in person.

I run from both of them.

I didn't attend his shows, but I never spoke in tongues or experienced anything like those people.  I was worried about it, so I went to my grandparent's pastor and had him pray over me privately.  Nothing.  He got frustrated with me and told me to fast and pray until it happened.  I tried that too and still nothing.

I concluded that I wasn't going to fake it and I had suspicions that many others do indeed fake it out of peer pressure or something else.

moanareina,

Your story is fascinating. I understand the weird feeling in that type of atmosphere. I was in that type a lot. Of course, I was believing that the holy spirit moved in "mysterious ways," often different for each person. Even though I believe very different about it now, of course, I also know that it does have a very real effect on people, psychologically and emotionally -- and that extends socially as well.

Perhaps you will write more of your story. I like what you posted above. It has elements for the making of a good short story, or even a screenplay. You seem to have a keen eye (and recall) for details.

So, maybe there is more to come...

Thank you Human

I started several attempts to write down my story...but I realized that it is too complex to just sit down and write two pages and tadaa, here it is. Just the way I got born into this world can fill more than five pages. Sometimes I wish I had just had a normal life. But well, what's normal anyways.

I think there have been tons of people hyperventilating. The symptoms are accurate.

And I really don't know about the effects. I knew some quite weird people who where "slain in the spirit" and they stayed as weird as they have been before. No real change.

Also the technique guy at that church I talked in my post was sitting behind a window above the room where he had a great view on the scene. He told me he saw people who where shaking around and then stood still to look around and see if anybody was looking...

When I was involved in deliverance ministry years later I met a woman who invited me to so called soaking sessions. You would just lie on the floor and wait for God to show up...it pretty much reminded me to those events of my teens and it was weird because I had the same feelings I had back then. So I left and told her I would not be back again. She could not understand it and thought I was afraid of God...

Your religion is the true religion.  All those other religions are misguided, fake religions.  You have the creator of the universe as your best friend.  When reality gets in the way of your delusions you ignore reality.  You find people who do not want to hear your preaching and you preach at them.   Doesn't matter that you can't explain, can't answer, can't demonstrate, can't verify . . . you are right because you believe and we need to believe it too.

You are a false teacher.

moanareina,

It's curious that even though I attended several services in this type of atmosphere where these behaviors occurred, I myself never experienced being "slain in the spirit." I think I was always skeptical, just like I am about things such as hypnosis. I never wanted to give up my self-control to someone else. I was at those charismatic services mainly to support other people (pray with them, etc.). It's also interesting that, in the situation where you were, the technician noticed several people apparently faking it.

I hope you will eventually write your story. I would love to read it. But I understand the challenge. My own story of my Christian experience is long and complex. But it seems you are interested in writing not only about your Christian experience but also your life story. I imagine it will captivating and compelling.

Human

Well, I was not in the business of hyperventilating either...haha...but I thought if this all really was about God and the Holy Spirit, I wanted it too...but I wanted it to be real, so I resisted everything that was self made, like hyperventilating...

But when I was younger and we went to that very pentecostal church my dad helped to found I started to attend their youth group (I think I was fourteen or so) and started to lift up my hands at worship and things like that. It was weird because it had an effect on me. My mom was never comfortable with that Church and when she left I felt weird about those things too. I felt as if there was great evil in all of it, like a dark cover. I guess it had to do with the manipulations that I became aware of. So I was glad when we left as a family later on.

So I guess you have not been hyperventilating...and not bought in the whole thing. Good for you. I think the emotional experiences people made in such places keeps them stick to the religion.

And well, my christian experience can't be separated from my life story. It is all intertwined. So if I ever write it all down it will be my life story. I really don't know how I could separate them.

How about you, can you separate your life story from your religious one?

hinn is another conman, hired actors, stupid people, and a lot of flair all add up to the load of bullshit you see.

I've been slain in the spirit and have spoken in tongues before due to a service like that (not Hinn specifically). I must say it all felt very real at the time. I certainly wasn't consciously faking anything. But I did desperately want that stuff to happen to me. I was so psyched up about it all that when bodies started falling around me, I was swept up in the hypnosis as well.

i always wanted to hyperventilate and get slain or speak in tongues but somehow the rational part of the brain would not allow me to go to that sacred place,,,,,,,

Back when I first witnessed this shit, it creeped the hell out of me (no pun intended). Mental red flags and hairs on my neck standing up. I instantly wanted the fuck out.

Then I emailed James Randi several years layer on the subject. He taught me the word 'glossolalia', what it meant and a few things about faith hearings.

Now I only feel pity for the people that get suckered into it.

Excuse spelling errors. Typing this on my phone during work.

They do that thing where they rock your head back and forth while praying over you.  They switch directions and of course after a while it makes the person dizzy.

Nothing spiritual about it at all.

I love the part where I get to come into you! That's when everyone seems to get the jitters. Sorry about that. It's just Us doing what We do.
