Christian “Facts” And Free-Thought Rebuttals

The Bible was written over a long period, deals with many different topics and has numerous authors, therefore it is Supernatural

The US constitution also deals with different topics, has numerous authors and with its amendments is also being written over a long period. It is not a supernatural document.

People have died for Christianity

As they have for Islam, Buddhism, etc

The vision of Mary and the pre arranged dancing of the Sun in 1917 are proof of the power of God; Even Richard Dawkins finds this event a worry

Dawkins has called this a worry true enough….however the rest of the world did not see a dancing sun; believers also note the many photos that where taken, yet the photos generally depict the crowd and not the miracle. Many present (including the faithful) saw nothing unusual.

God wants all to go to Heaven

Allowing for a moment that Christianity is true, this claim is clearly BS. God creates Hell, sends delusions, and makes salvation arbitrary and confusing. He clearly wants humans to go “downstairs”.

God obviously exists

No He doesn’t. A person has to be introduced to Him via a Holy book or a believer. Things that are confirmed by reality exist, such as the moon. If you lived you life in complete ignorance of God, would you feel His presence, of course not?

If you are wrong you will go to Hell

True enough and so will you if Allah is God, or so will you if you are one of the “many called” and few chosen. The Christian God appears to have very high (and strange) standards; I am yet to meet a single Christian who obeys the Bible.

God has made us to glorify Himself

Maybe, what have you done today to make Him happy, may I suggest Luke 6:30

I find your lack of faith disturbing

That’s the wrong theology….Lord Vader

God does answer prayers.

Possibly ….for car keys, exam results and so forth.

Jesus wants all to be saved

He came for the Jews, called the gentiles dogs, I believe, and spoke in parables for the purpose of confusing people, that doesn’t sound like he wants to save us at all.

Jesus died for us

Dying and then coming back to life is hardly "dying"

God has to send people to Hell because of our sin and because He is Just and Holy

Well if He “has” to send us to Hell how does He have free-will? Saying He is just and holy doesn’t make it true. We might as well say, he sends people to Hell because might is right.

Jesus is my Lord and Master, I kneel before Him so He can enter me and I can obey Him

For a homophobic religion, Christianity sure has a lot of homoerotic imagery and language

The OT is filled with prophecy which absolutely prove Jesus was who He said He was.

Maybe, but then again the Jews didn’t buy into Him, and they believed in God, believed in prophecy and expected (and still expect) the messiah. And they were eye witnesses to His ministry.

A Godly nation is a peaceful nation

America is the most Christian nation on earth and is the murder capitol of the planet. More crimes are committed in the USA then the rest of the world combined. To date, Uncle Sam is the only nation to deploy not one, but two atomic weapons and on a civilian population to boot…….

Ditto the Middle East, where the religion of Allah rules supreme and lots of the people live in terror.

Christianity changes lives

Yes, but not always for the better

Jesus makes me feel great.

Good for you, Ice cream does the same for me.

Christianity helped free the slaves and holds women in the highest regard.

The OT fully supports the owning and beating of slaves. The NT does not repeal slavery. The OT states that rape victims are to marry their rapists OR be put to death. The NT orders women to submit and be silent. It allows for divorce only in the event of adultery. So if a Christian wife gets beaten by her husband, she mustn’t divorce him. If he gives her crabs, she mustn’t divorce him. If he spends all their money on beer and comes home every night drunk, she mustn't divorce him. If she prays to God to change him, she is gonna have a bad time.

God is blameless for the sins of man.

God presumably created us without free will, placed us in a garden AND in close proximity to the tree of knowledge AND made the fruit good to eat AND allowed the serpent access to our first parents AND did nothing to protect them. This is entrapment. If a man is invited into a car with a woman he finds attractive and believes to be a prostitute AND she is all over him when they recline the seats AND she whispers saucy words into his ears AND she tells him she wants him. When He takes his pants off and she pulls a badge out and arrests him we call that entrapment. Why does God beat this rap?

You will go to Hell

I’ll see you down there.

Millions of people love Jesus

Millions of people “love” soap operas and Adam Sandler movies, there’s no accounting for taste.

 Christians are lovely

Well I quite like Ned Flanders and Hank Hill, Pat Robertson and Dubya not so much

You’ll be sorry at the end

Perhaps, I can’t predict the future, but loving God because you are frightened of Him seems to be a complete non-runner for me. A love based in fear is no real love at all.

All this is, is a list of opinions... not sure where the facts are that we are to rebut? Nothing in this entire list can be quantified in any scientific or "real" way. it is like me saying I like  "red" not much room to argue. My opinions, their opinions... we all have them and the one thing I can say is that mine are a lot less damning and tyranical than most christians I know and far less loaded than this list.

I cannot imagine anyone but a current believer buying any of this.

your answers to them are great though I see nothing wrong with those at all.

"Maybe"? Wrong answer. Not only does that give the Christian leeway to think he's right, but there really is absolutely no maybe about it. The NT butchers the OT by taking quotes completely out of context in order to fabricate prophetic fulfillments. A thorough examination of this topic is what really unraveled Christianity for me. (For details, feel free to read the "Fabricated Prophetic Fulfillments" category in the letter I wrote to my parents, available in post #13 in the link in my signature.)

I've read your "letter to your parents" before. Interesting stuff and well written

^^^ Thanks, man. I should've also mentioned that a lot of your responses are good, as opposed to just hastily addressing the one.

What is amazing to me is that the fundamentalists actually claim that all of the OT prophesies came true, except for the ones that will come true in the future. This is an example of the "Big Lie". The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed,   bill
