Goodbye Jesus

Heaven...a Sad Place – A Christmas Story

Hi everyone

So I decided to finally write a story for this year's christmas with my parents. I wanted to do something like this for years but somehow it never happened and I don't know if I would have had the courage to confront them with the topic I have in mind anyways. But now I feel like doing it and I went to my favorite restaurant today to get started with writing, yey :).

Basically it is about judgement day and I tell the story in retrospective. That the earth finally came to it's end and God decided to send Jesus to get all his followers into heaven and to judge those who did not know him. How everyone was shocked that it really was true and how bad people would go into heaven as good people would be left out simply because weather they accepted Jesus or not. All the good people who cared for each other and their lives and now they would be left there, while seeing others going into heaven who had been weird, mean or whatever, with good people nonetheless. And how families and friends get separated and those who walk into heaven don't know if their relatives, friends or spouses will enter heaven with them or if they would never see them again. Then I change the perspective and am with those who already entered heaven. How there is festive music but only a few, those who did not care about others too much anyways and only care about their salvation and their own forgiveness, will start partying. The others are not really in the mood to party still thinking about their friends and so they start building groups and start discussing. Some cry while others ask the questions no one dared to ask before. Like if this God could possibly be good if their friends and family members had to stay outside while he wanted to party. How there was really no other possibility and how he is supposed to be a good father when disowning his own creation etc.

So that is where I am at right now. And I thought maybe I can get some input. I know there will come input while time passes...but to have another perspective would be fun too.

Looking forward to your thoughts and inspirations.

Thanks :)

It gets worse.  I remember preachers saying "don't worry about heaven and you finding out that certain loved ones are there!  god will wipe every tear from your eye!"

From what I've heard at least, it becomes god performing a mind-wipe / thought alteration on everyone saved.

I started writing a story a few months ago somewhat like this. Basically, everyone in heaven's minds had been wiped clear of the memory of any loved one who didn't go to heaven. But my main character begins to hear screaming in heaven one day, and a voice calling out to her for help. She doesn't know why she recognizes the voice, but she does. She follows the sounds of the screaming and sees a woman, burning from head to toe, becoming a pile of ashes, then reforming and burning all over again. She recognizes the woman as her beloved sister.

That's about as far as I got, but the plot was for the main character to begin to tell others the truth about heaven, and begin a revolt, basically saying that they don't want to be in heaven if that is what is going on with their loved ones.

I like the revolt idea. I think one of the interpretations of the book of Revelation is that after 1000 years the humans in paradise join forces with Satan to revolt against God.

What amazes me is that universalism is such a taboo in Christianity, because it eliminates this whole problem.

"Lord I lift your name on high, Lord I love to sing your praises" is the number one song on the radio, 5 trillion years running58.gif

It always gave me the creeps thinking about people from different chronological eras mingling.  At my church they'd get all excited about this.  I do not now or ever, want to attend a tea party with someone who lived 400 years before I was born

I have yet to find any human being I'd like to spend a thousand years with.  Let alone eternity.

God does brain operations on everyone to take all their feelings away so that the fact that dear mother is wailing in agony from severe burns does not interrupt our heavenly game of football

don't forget the freakish "marriage ceremony".  Jesus + everyone = asexual marriage to each other forever.  Wonderful replacement for sex and erotic love, huh?

Yey thank you all.

And yes, I almost forgot about how my dad used to say: Once we are in heaven, all our questions will be answered...also I did not take in account that God would make us forget about those not being in heaven, that is kinda new concept to me. But I can see how Christians believe that way since they need something for knowing heaven will be good and not sad. So I might integrate that into my story and it will probably support my case because the point of the story is, to make them think about their believes, about God and his moral standards...

Maybe people start planning a revolt and just before they would actually be able to act God would take their memories and emotions about them away and be like: So now, let's have a good time...

Oh my, heaven makes less and less sense just thinking it all through...especially in context of God wanting to have people following him on free will...I mean, as long as they are on earth they follow God on their free will and as soon as they are in heaven they are condemned to be with him forever. (And I am aware that free will is another one of those concepts to discuss but I don't want to go there in this thread. Thanks).

Thank you for the good thoughts.

And Aiyana, I think you have a great story too :)

Just a quote I read recently: Man has made God is his own image.....how true!

Wiping their minds... Sounds like the pre-fruit garden of Eden that everyone calls paradise. Then we learned something and that pissed him off, and so blood, devastation, death, war, and horror. Bible god is an asswipe.
