How To Repulse A Stranger

Maybe I have an overactive imagination but since this is a place that's allows us to express our thoughts......

I often go to a coffee shop on Sunday mornings and usually see people stop in on their way to church. So today this is what I was thinking. I imagined I was one of those people stopping in and happened to meet a stranger who had just come to this country from some remote part of the world and knew nothing of our culture. I tell him I'm on my way to church and today happens to be the lords supper. He asks what that is. I tell him it's a ceremony in which we symbolically eat someone's flesh that lived 2000 years ago and drink his blood.

Can you imagine the absolute stunned look on their face? He might then ask if I consider that to be normal and I would reply "yes, I've been doing it all my adult life." At that point, if it was me, I think I would just quietly get up and leave as I was thinking "these people are insane".

Eh, I think that the Eucharist actually has some true symbolic meaning.  It is a true statement that humans "are what they eat."  If there is a God, and salvation is unification with that God, then eating God is the visible means of the spiritual experience.  Humans consume plant and animal life -- our genetic cousins.  We also feed off of the culture and technology of our ancestors.  As far as symbols go, the Eucharist is not completely nuts.

Actually, humans consume other humans in order to immunize ourselves against corruption.  The polio vaccine was created by Jonas Salk using the HeLa strain of cells, the flesh of Ms. Henrietta Lacks.  The line was derived from cervical cancer cells taken on February 8, 1951, from Henrietta Lacks, a patient who eventually died of her cancer on October 4, 1951.  Ms. Lacks dies and lieves "For the Life of the World."  John 6:51.

Ellinas, That would certainly create less political turmoil.

Llwellyn, Interesting opinion on the subject. You certainly have a point. You may have great potential as a theologian.

"Pardon me sir but do you have a moment for me to tell you about our lord and savior, the zombie we eat?"
