It's a catchy tune, notwithstanding its reliance on a non-existent imaginary friend to derive one's self-worth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot1yFKTUn4E Unfortunately, it also seems to be the theme song for One Voice Virgin Islands, an organization whose only, sole, single, and entire raison d'être is to prevent gay marriage, and they play it loudly during their marches. Of course, the only argument they have is “God sez so.” And they don't even quote Leviticus or St. Paul! They prefer to shout from that story with the talking snake and expect people to take them seriously. (Have they even read their holey book?) They appear not to understand that freedom of religion applies to everyone, not just them, and they have no concept of separation of church and state. I mean it. They have no concept whatsoever. (FYI, we are subject to the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.) The association leaves a bad taste in my mouth whenever I hear this song. Three of my Facebook friends appear to be with this group, but I have yet to see anyone from my former parish at their marches. I think the Catholics on this island understand separation of church and state, at least in principle.The good news is that the marchers are dwindling in number and that we get a lot of car honks for our counterprotests. A favorite band back in my fundie days was Mylon LeFevre & Broken Heart. I still love the 80's Rock music, though I no longer believe or agree with the message. Christian Rap is cringeworthy at best. The only Christian artist that kinda breaks those parallels is LeCrae and even some of his songs can be awkwardly cringe. You'll see a whole bunch of bible thumpers arguing with each other and even coming at LeCrae asking to pray for him, etc, for being around sinners. A few years ago, that Marvin Sapp song "Never Would Have Made It" was literally everywhere, even on secular radio stations, but that never really came to a shock to me. Not gonna lie, I used to like Chris Tomlin when I was a Christian. Now whenever I hear it, I'm just like "this song is so arrogant" Our God is greater Our God is stronger... Our God is healer, Our God! Our God! OUR God!!!!! You know what I mean? I am so glad you picked up on that! I picked right up on that too! Hear that song a lot on the radio and others so like it. OUR god!! OUR god is more awesome than yours, motherf/cker. When I was a church attender they'd make us sing these songs about our god being better than any other and also we had to sing as loud as possible so that the "outside" world might hear us. Christian Rap is cringeworthy at best. The only Christian artist that kinda breaks those parallels is LeCrae and even some of his songs can be awkwardly cringe. Like his "I'm Turnt" song Agreed. My brother loves Lecrae. He won't just play his music quietly, he'll blast it. I'm not a huge fan of rap as it is, it just makes it even worse when it's all about Jesus. Otherwise typical CCM or worship music (i.e. Hillsong) gets played at my family's house on a regular basis and it drives me nuts. The only Christian music I'll play because I like it is Relient K, and even then I won't play much of their really early stuff because the lyrics make me cringe. Currently I have "Eternal Father, Strong to Save," "O God Our Help in Ages Past," "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me" rattling around in My brain at random intervals. And we're starting to rehearse the Christmas music too, which fortunately has a few non-religious classics like Sleigh Ride and a medley from A Charlie Brown Christmas. It just occurred to me that it may be supremely ironic that an anti-gay organization features a song entitled “I know who I am.” There are almost certainly some self-loathing, self-closeted gays in that organization. The one that gets me the most is at concerts, where many get on there knees and start praising during a song. Are they feeling something or is it just their way of showing off how closer to god they are? I think more often than not, they don't feel anything. It seems like many of them do it just because the others in the congregation are doing it; that was certainly the case with me. I previously went to a Pentecostal church that was big into that stuff and I remember times when the worship leader will tell everyone to hold their hands up so to show devotion to God or whatever.
