An Issue With The Stigmata

As an ExCatholic, I always heard of saints like St. Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio) who had what is called the stigmata, the manifestation of physical holes that correspond with those Jesus received from the crucifixion.   According to the church, these holes miraculously never heal for the remainder of the saint’s life (or at least until the very end in St. Pio’s case).

The issue I have with this entire idea is that when saints claim to have stigmata, they only have holes in their hands and feet.  However, we know now that the Romans never crucified prisoners by their hands.  Instead, the Romans typically nailed them to the cross by their wrists.  Christians will even acknowledge this because the term hand in the original language meant finger tips to elbow (or something along those lines).  So why does the stigmata appear in the hands instead of the wrists?

Now I know the stigmata is fake but I’m curious what the Catholic/Christian explanation for this is.  God is allegedly suspending the laws of nature in order for their wounds to stay fresh and not heal.  God is perfectly able to replicate crucifixion wounds accurately but seems not to.  Why is this?

Name one person you have seen that has the "stigmata" at all that you have seen with your own eyes?

if it was such miraculous proof of anything there would be pics all over the internet and people reporting on it and news stories and blah blah blah.

Just more magician smoke and mirrors BS.

god can't do it because he isn't any more real than stigmata. Self mutilation however... that is alive and well.

Here's a review of a book about how Padre Pio faked the stigmata, with help from his co-horts, and other scams they committed. Very Interesting.
