Ravenstar
A very simplified version of current abiogenesis research.. well done. There are several episodes and he does get a little technical, but even a biology and chemistry idiot like me could follow along, somewhat! I learned how to pronounce eukaryote! 25YearsLater
Yes, these are fascinating. We're much, much closer than we were even 10-15 years ago, to a plausible mechanism for the emergence of the first self-replicating protocells, as he calls them. There's clearly more work to be done on the model RNA replication, but the story is coming together nicely. For those that don't want to get into quite so much of the actual chemistry, there's a reasonable summary of Szostak's group's work here. It's more or less faithful to the actual lectures, but if you watched it on its own you'd come away with the impression that all the problems are more or less solved, which they aren't yet. Still, well worth watching, both Szostak's lectures and the somewhat stylised summary.
