Ben Folds - Jesusland

Hey Everybody,

This song isn't exactly new, but I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of you reading this who have never heard it.  I rediscovered it the other day, and I just wanted to share it with you.  The entire song and video is a poetic satire that revolves around Christianity in America.  The artist is the phenomenal Ben Folds.  It is not often that artists of this caliber release material with this kind of potency.  I'd love to hear your thoughts, comments, and general feedback on this.  Enjoy!

"Crosses flying high above the malls"

This line made me think of South Korea for some reason...

I'm sure some fundies would look at that and think "We need to make our cities look like that!"

Yes, Ben Folds used to be the lead singer of Ben Folds Five. :)  If you enjoyed this song, you might also enjoy a song titled, "Not the Same", that he wrote about a friend of his who found Jesus while tripping acid at a party (true story).  ha ha  Ben Folds jokes that the song is about where drugs and religion meet on the other side.

@ Lucy,

That's a great picture you found!  Their is just something very 'off' and slightly bewildering about mixing consumer based capitalism with a Jesus based worldview don't you think?

I saved the pic just to trap the helpless. If only I was on Facebook I'd have fun with that one

"Not the Same" is my favorite Ben Folds song. I wasn't familiar with this one though, thanks for sharing.

I guess someone canbe saved by looking at these crosses?

I think they guide you like a moth to a flame to a place that will part you with your money in exchange for salvation.

Jesus always seemed like more of a socialist to me. He seems the type to be against consumer driven capitalism. I don't see how you can reconcile Jesus's teachings with capitalism very well. Yet, the most strongly religious Christians seem to be the most pro-capitalism.
