Goodbye Jesus

Guilty, Not Guilty

This song used to make me feel so guilty as a child (yes, I'm old enough to remember Petra in their hey-day).  Now, I can see that the song was specifically designed to make people feel guilty.  It is nothing more than an appeal to emotion.  By the by, in case your wondering, the garbled language at the beginning is backward masking; if played backwards it says, "Why are you searching for the devil when you should be searching for the lord?"

What used to get to you when you were a christian?  And have you seen how such things are designed specifically to get to people?

1. what used to get to me as a christian was johnny cash's rendition of Hurt.

2. I loved petra when i was a xtian, the song Adonai go to me

3. Book wise - jonathan edwards "sinners in the hands of angry god" got to me

4. T.v. wise - jack and rexella van impe, i just loved listening to those rants, ray comfort trying to disprove science, biology, and evolution (as a xtian i bought it all hook line and sinker)

5.I have seen how this stuff all plays to the human condition, horrible cult stuff indeed - the worship service is the worst, all that sappy music intending to put you into a lovey dovey mood right before and after the pastor's (paid liar) sermon

PETRA!!! OMG!!!! I went to one of their concerts when I was deeply "under the influence" of Fundamentalist indocrination. At the end a woman member of the group starting calling out all the people, generically, and healed them of their aliments. "Some has been suffering with vertigo"... you are now healed"... someone who can not walk is out there, you are now healed. I was blown away... not by the healing... but by the fact that they did not ask these people to step forward and present themselves. I told thd friends i was with " i dont get it. A perfect opportunity to witnesses to the non believers here.. and they are not calling these folks forward. Why!" I want to approach the band members to confront the about this...asking them why they were wasting such a great opportunity... my friends literally held me back. I could not understand why my friends were not as upset as i was...nor even seem to care.

It all seems so silly and bizzare now. I was truly a freak.

Matthew 16:18

"And I say to you that you are Peter and upon this rock I shall make mediocre musicians rich in my name."

When I was a Christian "The King Of Glory Shall Come In" was my favorite.  Of course now . . . unsure.png  the title sounds more than a bit perverted.  Wendytwitch.gif

But it was ripped off from the Old Testament and that was an old Jewish game.  Apparently they talked about their invisible friend whenever they opened up the city gate.

It's not that big of a deal.  Anybody can talk about their invisible friend.  And looking back the song isn't that wonderful.

But in my fundie days I would replay that song over and over again and work myself up into a frenzy.  King of Glory!!!!  How pathetic.

Now I realize it is a game of buttering up your invisible friend.  My invisible friend is much better than that other tribe's invisible friend.  Cuz I'm so special.
