I've had fun exploring spiritual oriented alternative ideas about time, namely the cyclic models. Below is a video on the subject:

And John Anthony West produced a series called "Magical Egypt," which explores the alchemist dimension of the mysteries of Egypt and it's possible parent civilization which West feels is displayed all around the megaliths. I went further and tied this into the Bible with it's Egyptian and Greek influence. Any one here ever get into this type of thing?

I always liked the Hindu and Buddhist view of time being cyclic, with different periods lasting thousands or perhaps millions of years. It seems like very early on, thousands of years ago, the Hindus had a proper appreciation for the scale and age of the universe.

As far as the Nyingma School of Buddhism goes, we are in the Kali Yuga or the degenerate times.

Interesting.  They must derive this from Hinduism, which likewise teaches that following the birth and death of Sri Krishna we are now living in Kali Yuga.

This will be an exhaustive summary of a ton of information I've processed over the years for any one interested in this mystery, but basically where this all seems to cross over into Christianity and the Bible is through many references to the "ages."

Around 14:00 is where that is discussed:

The ages of Taurus, Aries, Pisces, and a foreshadowing of Aquarius is Basically what the Bible is concerned with through it's astrological symbolism.

Since the priests were the astronomers of the day, I can easily see how these references were included for the sake of those initiates who could follow along. Meanwhile the uninitiated wouldn't catch it at all. That system preserves knowledge and keeps it out of the hand of the profane or vulgar masses, as they used to refer to them in the mystery schools. At least that's how Manly P. Hall always described the mysteries. It's like a time capsule which can survive through long periods of darkness and ignorance until a time when it can be appreciated once again. Suppose they thought the dark ages were coming and put a lot of ideas into a little neat package set up with promises of eternal life and rewards for those who simply keep the documents alive and continuous. Such a document may never die out, due to it's promises of rewards for those who keep it and punishment for those who don't.

If you outline those 4 ages symbolically mentioned in the Bible along side of the ascending and descending age charts that were shown in the video, and which Sri Lukteswar argued are the old ways that were eventually extended into the greater time scales, It's apparent that the Bible is concerned with the last 2 descending ages of the Great Year, and the first two ascending ages. In a larger scale that's Kali Yuga, but against precession it goes from the descending Dwapara, through the Kali, and into the ascending Dwapara. It's perfectly matched to the sun's journey through the darkest ages which make up 1/3 of the total cycle and where a type of battle with the darkness occurs and light reigns victorious and makes it's ascension.

It's a beautiful story when set against the cyclic models. The fall of man, that's just the descent of the sun through the lower ages. The Revelation, simply an outline of passing the last lower age in the ascending Dwapara which leaves off with the world made new. It may be that the only concern was to outline the lower end of the Great Year. The big hint comes from the 12 foundational Jewels described by old tradition as the signs of the zodiac. But they are in reverse order! The first Jewel is Pisces and the last Jewel is Aries. Barclay noted this and figured that it meant that St. John was showing his distaste for the zodiac by giving it in reverse order, a struggling apologetic conclusion for sure. But that's precisely the precession of the equinoxes and the Great Year which corresponds to the rest of the symbolism in the Bible addressed to it.

How often is the symbolism of 1/3rd used in Revelation? That corresponds to precession and the idea of the lower 1/3 of the Great Year being given over to darkness. The Dragon, mirrors Draco and the northern circumpolar stars which transition as polar stars through the Great Year as the earth wobbles on it's own axis. The strange hybrid bear - lion creature that the dragon gives it's seat and power to mirrors circumpolar constellations and how the pole start circles around in the northern sky as the earth wobbles on it's own axis. It's another way of observing the effects of precession by following the northern sky instead of the sun rising at the equinoxes. The final battle seems to mirror the higher ages taking over and prevailing against the 'darkness and ignorance' of the lower ages. This was obviously conformed to a Hellenized Jewish perspective that blends Judaism with Hellenistic age schemes (gnostic), and perhaps Yuga influence too. But it does seem to be there for those who may understand the close relation of astronomical observation and religion. And this is a combination of intuition and some research which supports all of this. It's hard to try and prove this absolutely to a tee because symbolism can be obscure and tough to pin down absolutely, hence the whole thing is better suited for a spiritual type of discussion than hard fact oriented. I think it's so much more beautiful than the orthodox reading and I can appreciate the symbolism about light battling darkness in this frame work.

I've followed this all the way back to Egypt. The Giza necropolis basically concerned with the Sphinx and Pyramids oriented to Orions lowest point on the meridian. Due to precession, the 3 belt stars of Orion's belt move from a horizontal angle to a vertical angle and back again, due to the earths wobbling axis. I've run that through my astronomy software to see the movement over long, long periods of time. It's a method for tracking the earths axial wobble, basically. This is covered thoroughly by Robert Buvual. And the lowest point, what the Egyptians called "the first time" (Zep Tepi), was during that last vernal age of Leo - Aquarius. The age to come now, is Aquarius - Leo the mirror opposite. That's the last time. That's when the belt stars of Orion reach their maximum on the meridian and then drift back towards the minimum which is outlined by the Giza Necropolis. Robert Buvual also noted that some of the shafts in the step pyramid are oriented to the northern circumpolar sky elsewhere in his work which I've noted matches the symbolism in Revelation:

The Message of the Sphinx

In Heliopolitan theology, all these processes (destiny of world ages) were grouped together, summarized and expressed in a single image – the Bennu bird, the legendary Phoenix which at certain widely separated intervals fashioned a nest of aromatic boughs and spices, set it on fire and was consumed in the flames. From the pyre miraculously sprang a new Phoenix, which, after embalming its fathers ashes in an egg of myrrh, flew with the ashes to Heliopolis, where it deposited them in the alter of the sun-god Re. …The Egyptians associated the Phoenix with immortality.

Sources vary as to the period of the Bennu’s return, but in his authoritative study on the subject R.T. Rundle Clark mentions the figure of 12,954 years. Let us note that this figure accords very closely with a half-cycle of precession (where the full cycle, as we have seen, is 25,920 years). As such, the return of the Phoenix could be expressed in astronomical terms either as a slow sweep of the vernal point through the six houses of the zodiac – for example from the beginning of Leo to the beginning of Aquarius – or, at the meridian, as the number of years required for a star to move between its minimum and maximum altitudes about the horizon

When considering such co-ordinates in the sky, we are immediately reminded of the Giza necropolis – of how the gaze of the Great Sphinx targets the vernal point on the eastern horizon, and of how the star shafts of the Great Pyramid lock into the meridian with machine-age accuracy. Moreover it can hardly be an accident that in the capstone or pyramidion placed on top of all pyramids was known in the ancient Egyptian language as the Benben and was considered to be a symbol of the Bennu bird (and thus also of rebirth and immortality).

…So the texts seem to invite us to attach leonine characteristics to the men of olden times, to the Ancestors, and to the Sages. …In this way they will lead us back to the trail of the followers of Horus (those following the movements of the sun) and to the notion that for thousands of years – spanning both the prehistoric and the historic periods – the members of a hidden academy may have been behind the scenes in Egypt, observing the stars with scientific rigor and manipulating men and events according to the celestial timetable…

The powerfully astronomical character of the Giza necropolis, although ignored by Egyptologists, has been recognized by open-minded and intuitive researchers throughout history. The Hermetic Neo-Platonists of Alexandria, for example, appear to have been acutely sensitive to the possibility of a ‘message’ and were quick to discern the strong astral qualities of the textual material and the monuments.

Vague memories of an astronomical ‘message’ at Giza appear to have filtered down to the middle Ages. In the seventeenth century, the British mathematician Sir Isaac Newton became deeply interested in the Great Pyramid… Later, in 1865 the Royal of Scotland, Charles Piazzi Smyth, launched an investigation into the Great Pyramid which he was convinced was an instrument of prophecy that incorporated a Messianic ‘message’.

In our own epoch – the epoch of 2,000 AD – the other extreme of the curious ‘balancing mechanism’ of Giza is about to be reached: Al Nitak today stands within a few arch seconds of the highest altitude that it will attain during its precessional cycle and the vernal point is about to drift into the constellation of Aquarius. Between the "First Time" and the “Last Time”, in other words, the skies have reversed themselves – literally flipped left to right – with Aquarius now marking the vernal equinox and Leo marking the autumnal equinox.

We wonder whether it is possible that the Sages of Heliopolis, working at the dawn of history, could somehow have created an archetypal ‘device’, a device designed to trigger off messianic events across the Ages – the pyramid age when the vernal point was in Taurus, for example, the Christic Age in Pisces, and perhaps even a New Age in Aquarius?

So there seems to have been an eastward observation at the spring equinox and then northern observations at the circumpolar stars all of which are based in observational readings that follow the course of the earths wobbling axis. The Northern are discussed elsewhere but that will get exhaustive, I'll quote that later if any one wants to go there. Nabta Playa was also discovered to do this, with Orion as the example in it's central complex of stones. Thomas Brophy's "Origin Map," deals with that in close detail. I like to note that these old astronomer priests, now possibly occult members in this day and age, may have manipulated men and events according to the the celestial time table. Perhaps that's why history seems to closely reflect the descending and ascending motion of the ages, especially concerning the dark ages hitting bottom according to Christian dominance. ;-)

With Egyptian and Greek (Alexandria and Antioch) mystery school influence informing the Bible, I have to consider that the age to come outlined in the Bible is the age of Aquarius - Leo which is basically what Giza is all about. That knowledge must have survived in certain circles enough to make it into the NT via Alexandria so on. But it's part of the overall observation of precession so it should be there along with all of the rest of it and as the end of it is described in Revelation. You have the zodiacal low point in the beginning of the age of Pisces and then in a delayed reaction you have the 3 belt stars of Orion reaching their maximum in the next age come, the age of Aquarius. You have a "first" and "second" observational event. The sun makes it's round full circle on the zodiac which is the first coming of Jesus, or the sun if you will, and then you have the second coming of Jesus / sun described in Revelation which takes the story to the end of the current age and into the next age when the second observational effect takes place. This plays off of Luke 22:10's reference to Aquarius as the age to come and corresponds to Egypt's concern with Aquarius - Leo mixed together with the Greek Zodiac and Platonic Great Year which concerns the end and beginning of the Great Year in Aries and Pisces. There's a combination at play here, it would appear. An attempt to incorporate different forms of knowledge and quite possibly preserve it through a very low point ahead.

Once again, it's a beautiful poetic story viewed through the astronomer priest type of perspective I'm reaching for here. All of the horror, the gnashing of teeth, merely vivid poetic imagery representing an old belief that the dark ages of ignorance will come to an end and knowledge, truth, and light will prevail once again. And more importantly, all taking place near the end of the lower 1/3 of the Great Year. Christians have interpreted that as 3 1/2 years - time, times, and half a time. But if this way of approaching the symbolism is correct then it's better viewed as time = age, two ages, and half an age. That takes the thinking into mid Aquarius when the last bit of the dark Iron age or Kali Yuga age loose their grip on society. And puts an entirely different perspective on prophecy. It seems more based on astronomical observation of the movements above as a way of predicting the status of future societies down on the earth below - "as above, so below."

I found that all of this also tends to reveal Yeats obscure poem, "The Second Coming."

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

He had a system of cyclic thinking which is referred to as gyres. But look closely at the bold. It looks as though he understood what the Sphinx is oriented to and how it relates to the Second Coming imagery of the Bible. Bethlehem is "house of bread" and it's associated with Virgo as noted in the video I posted above. We're in the Pisces - Virgo axial age now. The age we're coming up on is the Aquarius - Leo axial age. This age will birth out what the Sphinx in the desert 'symbolizes' as the first and last time ages (Zep Tepi) where observation of Orion's belt on the meridian illustrates the earths axial wobble - a "rocking cradle." These old traditions must have lasted well into the 1800's in certain circles when many people started writing about it. Gerald Massey was another one who seemed to know this. But they were all dismissed by Christians as lunatics and spiritualists, crazy theosophists and pagans. I seem to think that they simply had access to old knowledge and tradition about astronomical observation and religion and realizing that according to this age scheme we're leaving the dark ages, the lower 1/3 of the Great Year which comprises Taurus, Aries, Pisces, and Aquarius. So the time for knowledge to return, according that thinking, was just beginning to flourish. I love the integrity some of these guys had too, although they're regarded as loons. In their thinking deep truths needed to be told. The time was drawing near. But in Yeats case it's very cryptic. I don't believe he was at liberty to disclose things any other way as an occultist who was likely bound to secrecy by oath. Massey was not, so he blabbed quite a bit with no restraint. He had cross words about Theosophy and resisted Blavatsky. He was more interested in it as a scientific endeavor than a spiritual one.

And don't get me wrong here, I don't think that this means that some literal event will take place mid way into the coming age, I just find it interesting that you can deduce that the writers may have believed it. If there are really men manipulating events according to the celestial time table, then hell, maybe that will be an event forced by the hands of some men. Who knows? I just don't expect any supernatural events. Even in the strict sense that evolution is linear, we're on the side of the Great Year that represents advancement and growth. At some time, apparently, ignorance will have to drop off in a big way due to a rapidly advancing global community just according to our linear concepts of time and advancement. That's just the side effect of gaining more and more knowledge. Not just scientific knowledge, but perhaps spiritual knowledge as well. It's just really interesting seeing these pagan cyclical time models involved in the Bible which doesn't at first glace appear cyclical at all. Maybe that's because it's a linear progression through only 4 of the 12 world ages (1/3rd), so it appears linear at first glace without the 'gnosis' to decipher the cyclical astronomical language implied.

Joseph Campbell had discovered this hidden cyclical dimension in the OT:

The Inner Reaches of Outer Space: Metaphor as Myth and as Religion

P. 9-12

"For example, in the Hindu sacred epics...the number of years reckoned to the present cycle of time, the so-called Kali Yuga, is 432,000; the number reckoned to the "great cycle", within this Yuga falls is 4,320,000. But then reading one day in the Icelandic Eddas, I discovered that in Othin's warrior hall, there were 540 doors, through each of which, on the "Day of The Wolf" (that is to say at the end of the present cycle of time), there would pass 800 divine warriors to engage the antigods in a mutual battle of annihilation. 800 x 540 = 432,000.

...In Babylon, I then recalled, there had been a Chaldean priest, Berossos, who c. 280 BCE., had rendered into Greek an account of the history and mythology of Babylonia, wherein it was told that between the rise of the first city, Kish, and the coming of the Babylonian mythological flood (from which that of the bible is taken), there elapsed 432,000 years, during which antediluvian era, ten kings reigned. Very long lives! Longer even than Methuselah's (Genesis 5:27), which had been of 969.

So I turned to the Old Testament (Genesis 5) and counting the number of antediluvian patriarchs, Adam to Noah, discovered, of course, that they were ten. How many years? Adam was 130 years old when he begat Seth, who was 105 when he begat Enosh, and so on, to Noah, who was 600 years old when the flood came: to a grand total, from the first day of Adams creation to the first drop of rain of Noah's flood, of 1,656 years. Any relation to 432,000? ...it was shown that in 1,656 years there are 86,400 seven-day weeks. 86,400 divided by 2 equals 43,200.

And so it appears that in the book of Genesis there are two contrary theologies represented in relation to the deluge. One is the old tribal, popular tale of a willful, personal creator god, who saw that "the wickedness of man was great in the earth..." (Genesis 5:6-7). The other idea, which is in fundamental contrast, is that of the disguised number, 86,400, which is a deeply hidden reference to the Gentile, Sumero-Babylonian, mathmatical cosmology of ever-revolving cycles of impersonal time, with whole universes and their populations coming into being, flowering for a season of 43,200 (432,000 or 4,320,000) years, dissolving back into the cosmic mother-sea to rest for an equal amount of years before returning, and so again, and again, and again.

It is to be noticed, by the way, that 1+6+5+6=18, which is twice 9, while 4+3+2=9: 9 being associated with the goddess mother of the world and it's gods. In India the number of recited names in a litany of this goddess is 108. 1+0+8= 9, while 108 X 4 = 432. ...It is strange that in our history books the discovery of the precession of the equinoxes should be attributed to Hipparchus, second century BC., when the magic number 432 (which when multiplied by 60 produces 25,920) was already employed in the reckoning of major cycles of time before that century.

This is the Pyramid Code:

It's long. But if you like this sort of mystery chasing it's a good one. It goes over the astronomical sophistication of ancient Egypt.
