Sequel To "to Kill A Mockingbird" To Be Published

To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite novel of all time. Prior to writing that great novel, Harper Lee wrote another novel called, "Go set a Watchman" which is about Scout returning to her hometown as an adult. While it was actually written before To Kill a Mockingbird, but never published, it is said to be very much like a sequel to Harper Lee's great novel. I can't wait to read it.

I hope its good. One of my favorite childhood novels, Summer of my German Soldier, has a horribly written and boring sequel that I (and many other readers) hated.

Thanks for the clarification. I was confused as to why the media folk keep calling it a sequel; when it seem to me it should be a prequel if it was written before "Mockingbird".

I agree it is not a sequel in the true sense since it was written after To Kill a Mockingbird. On the other hand, it is not a true prequel since the events in the novel occurred after the events depicted in Mockingbird. I guess it is a sort of hybrid.

Sequels are stories that take place after the events of an already published story.

Prequels are stories that take place before the events of an already published story.

It is obviously unusual to have a new story that is set after the events of an already existing story, but which was written beforehand and not published.  But what matters if the fact that the events of the story happen after, not that the story was written earlier in real time.

I am looking forward to the new book though, for sure.  biggrin.png

The story is going to be underwhelming and mediocre, in all likelihood.

I mean, if it was that great, wouldn't it have been published before? I understand it was lost for a while; but before that.

This is going to be like The Hobbit to Lord of the Rings.
