Exodus The Movie

Hey Folks,

 

I watched the Movie Exodus - Gods and Kings and although It was well done for the most part I got the indication that the producers were Atheist.  Did anyone else feel this vibe?

 

The Plauges for example played out as 

Water into blood

Frogs

Lice

Wild animals, possibly flies

Diseased livestock

Boils

Thunderstorm of hail and fire

Locusts

Darkness

Death of firstborn son

 

Can be explained when watching the film as natural occurrences due to a chain reaction.

 

Water into blood -> Caused by dirt in the Nile which caused

Frogs -> To leave the river and other animals in the river to die,  The frogs then without water die in the warm Egyptian heat leading to ->

Lice -> Which eat the bodies of the frogs and fish which bring ->

Wild animals, possibly flies -> to eat the left overs from the maggots this then caused ->

Diseased livestock -> By animals eating infected food and probably bitten by the flies and lack of water this also caused ->

Boils -> Which is the reaction that the humans got from the same infection then ->

Thunderstorm of hail and fire -> Which was caused by a near by volcano leading to ->

Locusts -> Which brought even more death to animals and sickness to others leading to ->

Darkness -> Of infected people (sort of a very sore infection,  People with the flue report not being able to see) this then lead to ->

Death of firstborn son -> Which occurred because the first born son got the first fruits.

 

This then lead to the

 

Parting of the Red Sea -> That was portrayed by the wind pushing the water aside leaving wet casims that would dry since it was egypt.  It also shows that the 'Sea' was not that deep meaning that in theory they could have walked even if there was a slight puddle.

 

 

Moses in the film is portrayed as an outright Atheist and then eventually comes to God after 9 years with his wife which sounds like he was indoctrinated e.g. He believed because his peers believed.

 

God was portrayed as a little boy with an attitude problem saying phrases such as 'I hoped you would say that'  For fuck sake its god of course he should know lol.

 

 

I say well done but it really had a strong Anti-Christian message.

When did Christianity take it for its own story?

To be honest, I couldn't even finish the movie. Those weird rock giants were too bizarre. Then I realized that I used to think it was all literally true and it made me sick so I stopped watching.

 

And yes, this is a Jewish tale, not a Christian one but either way it's full of crap.

I thought the rock giants were in Noah? I could be wrong as I haven't seen Exodus or Noah...mostly reviews mocking the movies.

Both are ok for nostalgia and rather ani-religous. I've never seen Noah as it sounds way too farfetched.

 

Ohh and do locus have to come after balls of fire I think if it did happen like the film shows theres probably a simple explination

Someone is a little late to the discussion, because this was noticed even before the film came out - the director is indeed an atheist and in the past has called religion the "world's greatest evil."

I think that it is natural that people are revisiting the common myths of our culture, and the Bible figures in most prominently. Growing up, I only ever saw movies and TV series that promoted faith. But starting back in the 70s, we started seeing more mainstream media coming out against the stories as fact, and putting different spins on them. Jesus Christ Superstar, Last Temptation of Christ, Religiosity

 

Fact is, most of the stories are now considered myth. Many rabbis admit that Exodus was a nationalistic tale intended to help unify the people, and the enslavement of the Jews in Egypt never happened. Here's a few links:
