Goodbye Jesus

Happy Ascension Day! Let's Celebrate That Jesus Left Our Lives!

Today is ascension day; the day that jesus left the building and said "be right back" - leaving us without proof of his existence and a book full of contradictions which could be (and has been) used by anyone for their own ends - good or evil. Very irresponsible move of him, leaving us like that. And what is he doing up there for so long?

Anyways, of course I don't believe that anymore and that is worth celebrating! I always feel very good on xtian holidays, they remind me of the freedom that I have now! Xtians still have to go to church; most find it boring, but they convince themselves that it is important, or they have no choice because of social pressure - and I can do whatever I want to do! And leaving xtianity gives freedom and opportunities to grow in so many other ways as many of you know how great that can be!

So, let's celebrate today that jesus left our lives!

"So nice, he left us twice!"

And I agree, no longer spending time getting ready for church, driving to church, sitting in church (yawn), and driving home again is wonderful!

Guest Furball

It commemorates his ascension 40 days ago according to the all knowing internet.

Sweet, lets commemorate a myth that can fly and no doubt burned up in the earths atmosphere over 2,000 years ago. (Probably why he never came back.)

I still don't understand how a single average sized Jew that had been recently tortured and executed could possibly have the Δv required to reach even suborbital velocity... Though I guess that was back when all you needed to get that far was a decent sized ladder or a tall tree.

I once toyed with the idea that Ascension Day was when Jesus died "for real" and they just called it ascension to cover it up. As in... He actually did not die during the crucifixion: he was not on the cross as long as standard, removed and treated with oils and herbs (healing arts), placed in a cool dark cave, woke up a couple days later. After 40 days the infections had taken over and he died for good. The accounts say his body ascended, but what if that was a metaphorical twisting, to cover up that he was not god?

That's assuming he existed at all. Just rambling here.

But I prefer Jaseph's take, that it is a reminder that he is out of our lives. No more of me giving 20-30 hours a week to make his cult followers' organization look good. Good riddance!

Pentecost will be in a week. How to secularize that? Let's try...

If ascension day is to celebrate that jesus left our lives, I would say pentecost is to celebrate that the spirit of reason came to live in us and to guide us in our lives, so that we can make good rational choices.

Something like that. Anyways, I love to celebrate these things and I love to be able to do that with you every time I come here! :)

Unlike today space used to be a lot closer to the ground so ascending was a lot easier back in those days.  We experienced a thickening of the atmosphere after this ascension but we'll know the end is truly near when the atmosphere thins once again.  This will mean that all the elect will be able to ascend to meet with jesus in the air.

Don't forget the "tongues of fire" that sat on their heads. Maybe we could celebrate with a bonfire of brainwashing religious books we no longer need? I have a nice little fire pit near my pool -- come on over!

I'll bring a copy of Strongs and a big Mathew Henry for when the fire gets low.

Yay for our ability to make good rational choices!
