Goodbye Jesus

It Was Really Hard Saying The Words

God is not real. Jesus is not real. The Holy Spirit is not real. Saying those three phrases out loud over and over left my stomach quivering. It's getting easier though.

Good for you, that's quite a thing the first time(s). Hug.

And it will continue to get easier. Good for you Becks for breaking free. I had a hard time with denying the trinity as well at first. Now i just laugh it off. I am proud of you. -Cat

It does get easier. Just don't let the lesson get lost, as you've paid dearly for it. Challenge all the other promises of magic and miracles that people will push your way. Logic and critical thinking will save you much time (and often money) that might otherwise be wasted on factually unsupported hokum.

Yes, none of them are actually real. It will indeed get easier with time. Glory!

The Lard did, however, once allow me to take His photograph while the Holy Spook Version of Himself was magically assuming His Bird Form!

Becks - accustoming yourself to the expression of your lack of Christian faith is bound to be uncomfortable at first.  Keep going.

Jeff - I'm sure that is living in the birdhouse in my garden...

it has a completely different effect saying vs thinking it. Is that like de-confessing the lord Jesus so you can be saved? Am I unwinding something. That sounds really stupid. It's a heavier dose of reality than just thinking about it or writing the words. There is something specific about speech that reinforces ideas. I know there are a lot of self help books and religious books that discuss this topic so I hate agreeing with them but it's true that the impact for me was greater by saying the words. It's almost a new mantra for me. A mantra used not to calm my thoughts but to activate my reasoning faculties.

Believe it or not, given enough time you'll wonder how you ever believed any of those things in the first place.

Becks, I'd like to suggest trying variations on those phrases that don't contain the word "not."

- God is imaginary.

- Jesus is a myth.

- The Holy Spirit is make-believe.

I don't know if it's ever been demonstrated scientifically, but there's a hypothesis/urban legend that the unconscious mind has a hard time processing negatives.  Changing the wording occasionally can also create multiple channels for the message, though, so this might be a useful way to reinforce new patterns.

I suppose you are unwinding something in a way.  or maybe untying something - the behavioural cords that bound you to certain expressions and practices.  What is in your mind is a reality - but what you say and do gives expression and solidity to the mental state.  In that sense, it makes things the more irrevocable.

I think...

Anyhow, if having such expressions as a mantra helps you for the time being, go with it.
