Goodbye Jesus

At Age 18 I Threw Out Catholicism. Many Years Later I Threw Out Agnosticism.

When I was in high school my girlfriend asked me "Why do you go to church?" Nobody had ever asked me that before and I was totally shocked. I was speechless. I couldn't say anything. A few months later our pastor, two Sundays in a row, spent the entire sermon explaining why we should donate more of our hard earned money to the Vatican. It was then I realized this wasn't a religion. It was a business. The customers were suckers. That was the last time I went to church. When I gave my mother the news (I should have been more gentle about it) she was hysterical. Sorry that happened but she made me realize religions made people crazy.

It took me several years to completely throw out the god fantasy, which is understandable since the brainwashing at Catholic School (1st grade to 8th grade) was intense. Now I totally get it. God is just another word for magic. Magic is not real. Therefore magical beings are impossible.

Welcome to Ex-C, BobCu.   I was raised catholic too and attended catholic school for several years.  My mother still thinks I'm going through a phase (about 40+ year phase, I suppose)!  lololol

Hope you enjoy your stay around here.

Welcome, BobCu!  When my grandparents left the Old Country back in the 1920's, one of the reasons they left was because of the control the Catholic church held over their village, and how they demanded so much money from the poor people who lived there (everybody in the village was poor, another reason my grandparents left the Old Country).  They vowed to never step foot in a church again when they came to America, and they never did.

It is a business. Good for you and good for my grandparents for catching on to that!

Welcome Bob! I freaking LOVE that last line, "God is just another word for magic. Magic is not real. Therefore, magical beings are impossible."

*High Five* So AWESOME to have you. You'll fit right in here in these parts! Looking forward to reading your posts and comments! <3
