Goodbye Jesus

And Here’S Why Public Atheism Matters

A similar situation was shown on the show The Good Wife, when the main character was running for state's attorney. She's an atheist, and was specifically instructed by her campaign staff that she would not get elected unless she presented herself as at least "questioning" or "open" to the idea of God. It's sad, but apparently this is not an inaccurate description of american politics.

As long as you're a Christian long enough for people to vote, they'll forget about it after you're in office. Then you'll be hated for the right reasons.

I suppose here in the U.K the greater likelihood is of a malicious rumour that someone standing for election is a fundie loon.

Well, in America the presidential candidate should claim Christianity but we'll never elect one of these high profile Christian preacher candidates like Jessie Jackson. If you start getting all Jesusy in your campaign it's not gonna work.
