Guest Ask21771 Posted October 13, 2015 Share Posted October 13, 2015 a week ago I finally let go of my fear and accepted that what was going on was my own paranoia then today my Walmart prepaid card stopped working even though I still had money on it when I called it turns out when I tried to use it the machine screwed up and couldn't read it resulting in my card being unusable for 24 hours, I had a huge panic attack basically I relapsed I know it could just be a random misfortune but the timing is driving me crazy, lit feels like the devil caused it, I don't know what to do Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You know that you are experiencing anxiety, and you know that your perceptions are all off. What the Bible does or doesn't say is about as relevant as last year's horoscopes. You need to have some experience that makes you less frantic and puts you in better touch with your tangible experience. No doubt your life at this time is so financially unstable that you wish to drink from the poisoned chalice of certainty. Something like that had you made a purchase then you would have done so and so and had you done so and so something bad would have happened. Therefore, somebody must have been looking out for you by preventing that bad thing from happening. Why not attribute it to a poltergeist? Or to an angel. Or to a pixie. Or to a fairy...... My point is that if it was the timing that made you think of the devil having possibly caused your problems, it was in reality your mind simply choosing one of many nonexistent entities to blame it on. Flush the false thought of the devil singling you out and trying to get to you by denying you access to your Walmart card. Think about that and you will see how your thought is not one made through rationally thinking the situation through. It doesn't matter what we tell you about the bible. We can all shout till we're blue in the face that it's a combination of mythology, folk tales and religious and political propaganda and it won't help you in the least. What you have described over and over again is CONFIRMATION BIAS You really need professional help but you've already said you won't get any so again I ask, what in the hell do you want from us? Can we have a conversation? And I have answered your questions in this thread and in all the other threads as well. How are we suppose to help you if you won't let us understand you? Atheists do not get any reward for making more atheists. I shared my experience because my religion really screwed me up in the head and leaving helped me tremendously. It is possible that when you find your solution it will take some other form. What worked for me may not work for the next guy. I just wanna know for a fact that the bible is wrong I explained that part as well. You keep asking about what the Bible says about this or that. The Bible is a collection of stories that are wrong. If you want to believe in some god or a set of gods that is fine but the Bible isn't even consistent with itself. One Bible book will paint God as evil and forgetful. Another Bible book will paint God as loving and perfect. Satan only appears in the New Testament and he is a comic book character who lives for people to worship him. On the other hand the Bible says that Epilepsy is caused by demon possession. Do you have any idea how much progress modern medicine and neurology have made in the fight against Epilepsy? Leaving your faith & leaving a cult is essentially the same thing & it isn't easy. It often takes years to convince yourself the Bible simply isn't true & Christianity is a man made religion, as are all other religions. There is no magic pill that is going to instantly make you grab on to reality & forget about all the Bible nonsense you've been taught. If you want to walk away from your faith you will have to put some time & effort into it & that absolutely will require some reading & research. You must also realize this is a process (journey) that often takes years to complete. There's an old saying that nothing comes for free.. or there is no free lunch. What that means is that there is work involved in anything worthwhile. There is a TON of evidence out there... and in here that the Bible is bunk. But YOU have to do the legwork.. no one can hand you something simple and convince you of anything. This isn't the Matrix where we can give you a red pill or a blue pill. We WILL however, support your journey, wherever it ends up. We are not here to 'turn' you into an atheist... some of us aren't even atheists - but we will share our knowledge and stories with you. What you do with that is entirely up to you. But what I take from your posts here is that you are putting too much value in "knowing" if what the bible says is true or if the devil exists or whatever it is you're trying to figure out. And I say that because those things are technically impossible to prove. We can point you to contradictions in the bible, logical arguments against the Christian god, and everything else, but nobody has undeniable evidence of those things pro or con. So you have to accept the next best thing, which is to ask what is most LIKELY to be true. What picture of reality do you think is probable enough based on facts and evidence that you feel you can live your life comfortably under the assumption that they're true? I'm not saying you should just assume that the bible is wrong and never wonder if it is, but since you can't know either way, and you have to believe something that influences how you function, you should ask yourself what possibilities are most likely. Why would the devil want to control your Walmart card? Why would a being with that kind of power spend its time meddling with something like that? It doesn't make any sense. What makes a little more sense is that people put certain ideas in your head to make you interpret random misfortunes as something more so they could scare you into doing certain things for their own gain. I had two thoughts after I read your first post that other people said later: 1) This is clearly a case of confirmation bias, and 2) You need to see a legitimate secular therapist and get professional help. Now, I thought those things, other people here thought them, and most people in general - even including most Christians - would at least agree on the second point. I thought I was a couple of times in the past...honest. I never did get therapy beyond my regular doctor, but she was pretty smart, and prescribed some meds that helped (Zoloft, in my case). I remember I was afraid to take it. She told me not to worry...it wouldn't change my personality. I asked her if she had a pill that would change my personality, because "nobody likes me the way I am, including me". Funny, huh? But true. A thousand comedians out of work, and there I was, trying to be one. She said "Excuse me" and came back a couple of minutes later with a white bag full of samples and the prescription. She saw that I was desperate, and when she came back and handed me the bag and the script, she just said "Take it." in a no nonsense voice. I don't think you are insane at all, Ask, so yes, you need a better term. If you committed the UnpardonableSin™, you wouldn't care enough to worry about it, and if you were insane, you wouldn't be posting here looking for help or friends or advice.
