Racists Really Get Me Down

Hating someone purely for the colour of their skin and proudly using racist language is just sickening.

I have to work with racists and it just gets me down.

It doesn't matter one jot to me, which races is doing the hating, it is just grim grim stuff.

I suspect that Trump is a racist, and that such a nasty oaf is polling so well is simply horrible.

You're right. It is frustrating.

I never understood how that logic works. Race and ethnicity aren't divided into "us" versus "them" groups: they're a spectrum. You can be dark or light or anywhere in the middle. At what point does someone's skin become the wrong shade for you to have goodwill towards him? Is it a little darker or lighter than yours, or moderately, or a lot? What if you had a friend who turned out to have some genetic component that you previously had decided you didn't like? Would you refuse to associate with that person or look at him differently? It makes no sense.

It's tribalism.  The human mind over simplifies.  We naturally sort people into "us" and "them".  It's something we have to train ourselves to undo.

This, just above. And skin color is one of the most obvious traits to use for dividing "us" from "them".

It has nothing to do with reason. Nothing.

I agree, Castiel.  I also feel that way about sexist behaviour.

One can only come to the rather gloomy conclusion that some human beings are not very nice

Recedntly had someone break into my garage. I caught them on a video camera. The first thing my 82 year old dad asked: "Was he black?"

I worked with an out and out racist, hideous man, who claimed that blacks were lazy.......while he himself was bone idle and fouled mouthed. Horrible, horrible man. That such monsters exist is all rather depressing. He had a shaved head, covered in tattoos, drank , smoked and used very unpleasant racist language.

And  such cave men are allowed to vote!

Also known as "If someone who had to sneak into your country, has few skills and barely knows the language basics can steal your job... then maybe there's indeed a problem but it's not with him!"

True.  If you want to find the cause try to imagine the world of our distant ancestors.  They worked together in a family in order to survive.  But every other tribe was at war with your tribe.  If somebody looked different then they were part of a different tribe and thus automatically the enemy.  Racists are literally people who can't stop thinking like cave men.  The situation has changed.  Humans now live peacefully in villages, towns, cities and mega cities.  Our mutual survival now depends on everyone seeing everybody else as part of the same tribe.

I think I know that guy. Is his name Steve?

When I was in Thailand, I knew a British guy named Steve. He bragged about shooting niggers in SA and how he would take care of barking neighbor dogs by feeding them sponges, which would expand inside their stomachs and slowly starve them to death. Haven't run across many more repugnant than this guy.

The wickedness of such people is heart breaking, particularly as we are forced to share the planet with such vile creatures.

And I lost my nerve to challenge such people ,which  is depressing as well.

Political Correctness, in my opinion, has so distorted the definition of the word racism that virtually everyone on planet earth could qualify as a racists. The law requires physical, emotional, or economic harm as the trigger for an actionable cause, and I think that is the proper line in the sand to draw.

Thought without action is not illegal...yet. Voicing threats is actionable because that goes beyond thought. Voicing dislike for someone or group, without a verbal threat, is not actionable either. Using offensive words, without threats, isn't actionable either. It is certainly rude & in some situations it would qualify as stupid, but its not illegal.

Political Correctness is definitely a form of censorship & is used to intimidate & silence opposing thoughts & views. It has been turned into a weapon & it is used to control people. It has evolved into a way of controlling & manipulating thought. It is clearly a threat to free speech & it needs to be destroyed.

There are adequate laws to deal with real racism, mental forms of racism are protected by the Constitution. At this point in time thoughts are not illegal, but if PC is allowed to continue to run wild that could change.

I have the same reaction of disgust when I hear people make blanket statements about cops.

Cops aren't a race and they volunteer to abuse the rights of others. When they stop, as a group, breaking up constitutionally-protected protests, violating people's 4th Amendment rights, brutalizing people who have not harmed others as they provide the muscle behind unjust laws, I'll personally admit their necessity in society, but not until then.

And, ironically, since they, as a group, enforce policy that is racist, such as stop and search and unbalanced drug laws that target racial minorities, cops often represent real, objective racism in the country.

I am all but certain that numerous police officers have not only murdered black citizens, but have got away with it and are still working in law enforcement. Not all cops are bad of course, but  the scores of reports of police beatings and brutality are sickening. When cops are required to wear vest cameras that record their actions on duty, reports of mistreatment drop dramatically

To add, one of the racists I work with is a real knuckle dragger, the sort of guy, who if you saw him move in next door, you would put the house up for sale. His speech is littered with the foulest of coarse language.  One of my other co-workers is a black man...where to begin with him. Well I never hear him swearing, he is cultured, refined, well educated, helpful, hard working and committed. The fact that the first guy would look down on the second man as inferior is laughable. Not all people are racist of course, but I do work with some hard core ones, who would fit right in, in 1939 waving their flags and saluting their Fuhrer. I say again, that such men are allowed to work in the NHS is very very worrying.

That, or a spate of camera malfunctions ensue.

Society relies on the police to protect them from thugs, bullies, crooks, gangsters, drug dealers, terrorists, & dangerous mentally ill people. This is often dangerous & violent work. Many officers lose thei lives protecting private citizens annually in this country. An officer was shot this this past week in Pa & another officer was killed in Co.

People who are exposed to constant danger, war like conditions, & compat often become aggressive as a self defense mechanism. It is inevitable that level of constant stress will cause some to cross the line. The officer in Chicago that shot the teenager 16 times is an example, but those kind of situations are rare.

Until you are the lone officer making a traffic stop at 3 AM, or responding to an active shooter call don't assume you know how dangerous a police officers job is. When it's you being attacked or shot at I'll bet your damn glad to see that patrol car roll up & an armed officer jump out in an attempt to save your life.

There are bad cops but there are a hell of a lot more thugs & criminals than there are cops. Let's not forget there are some rouge preachers, school teachers, doctors, lawyers & judges too. People are people and some people are dangerous. Society needs to be protected from people that pose a threat to other people & it's the police that do that nasty & dangerous job.

ut those kind of situations are rare.

Yup, only 1000 so far this year. And forget about dead dogs and beating victims.

No one said cops are unnecessary. We're saying they shouldn't be above the law and they shouldn't be used by the elite to break the law (constitution). American cops are effectively above the law and they all volunteer to break the law when they do things like this:

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Lawsuit-charges-police-brutality-in-Black-Lives-6652093.php

If these are the bad apples, I'd like to know which city has the good ones, because cops all over the country do illegal searches as road side blocks, break up peaceful protests with tear gas, tazers, rubber bullets and clubs, write tickets to meet quotas (illegal and supposedly non existent, yet they're getting caught all the time) and I'm only scratching the surface here.

It is inevitable that level of constant stress will cause some to cross the line. The officer in Chicago that shot the teenager 16 times is an example, but those kind of situations are rare.

His union has his back. All them 'good apples' stick together doncha know?

Here are occupations more dangerous than being a police officer. Number of deaths per 100,000 employed:

chart-3.jpg
  1. Logging workers: 127.8
  2. Fishermen: 117.0
  3. Aircraft pilots: 53.4
  4. Roofers: 40.5
  5. Garbage collectors: 36.8
  6. Electrical power line installation/repair: 29.8
  7. Truck drivers: 22.8
  8. Oil and gas extraction: 21.9
  9. Farmers and ranchers: 21.3

Cops don't even make the top 10.
