Oh, I empathize with you!  In most of my jobs, people have been generally ok, some annoying people but more run-of-the-mill annoying so easier to ignore.

I did have one job where one person in particular would go into stuff like you have above, and a lot of stuff about women, and the days we worked together were so depressing.  The people that weren't offended by him ("Oh, he's just joking!  He's funny!") joined in with him, the managers completely ignored him (but they obviously heard him and did nothing), and those of us that found him offensive could say nothing to get him to stop or slow down.  He'd just add me or us in the list of "crazy bitches" and laugh away with the others that thought they were so witty.  I quit acknowledging him at all.  We did have to work together, so I had to say words to him for our job, and that's all I did.  But I hated hearing his voice, and if I walked in the door and heard him (of course he was so loud you heard him everywhere) I would just feel heavy and depressed.

That also was in a hospital-like setting.  A lot of things about that job were horrible, related to my co-workers.  I heard so many cruel, inhumane things coming from particular co-workers regarding our patients that to this day I don't like being in any type of doctor office or hospital because I think the workers are being cruel in the back rooms.  Luckily, I did have a few wonderful co-workers and we banded together and enjoyed when we worked together and did everything we could for the patients.

Sounds like American stupidity has now been imported en masse into Great Britain.

I don't think that's ever been a uniquely American characteristic. We're just louder about it!

You forgot to say "white" and "conservative". You must have been in a hurry.

I think that would depress me too, Castiel.

In an ideal world I would complain , the racist and sexist pigs would be reprimanded, retrained and fired if need be. I would be thanked for trying to make things better.

In the real world , if I complain, I will be labelled a grass, my tyres will get slashed, everyone will close ranks and my complaints will go straight in the bin and any excuse to fire me will be acted upon.......

Its a grim world out there, where the good guys get hounded:

To add,

I once worked at a horrible, horrible place, with one bully that stood out. After taking tons of trouble  from this guy, eventually I asked him what his problem was and would he like to go outside. Then I put in a formal complaint. The complaint was upheld, he was given a six month written warning.....Several warnings letter later, numerous complaints about his bullying and sexism, he is still there, still doing the same job, picking on the guys and harassing the women while I am long gone.

Years ago I used to work at Royal Mail. There was one particular manger, who was known to be a nasty piece of work. (He was on a different shift to me, so I did not know him). Anyway , he decided to grope a female temp, and after doing so , she slapped him and in turn, he punched her in the face. A manager, no less. They did all they could to sweep it under the carpet and close ranks, but she called the police , while refusing to leave the site until they arrived. Luckily for her, the police did their job, arrived , carted him off, and Royal Mail had to get rid of him.

But for every scum bag that gets caught , I'd say that hundreds get away with it.

I used to believe that mangers were promoted and employed because they were great at their jobs, or fantastic with people, I now believe that many of them get there, because they are great at shouting at people, great at bullying staff and fantastic at covering their tracks.
