There are no gods, no one watches your thoughts, no one in the sky judges you with rules that ignorant tribal sheepherders thought were important. People naturally enjoy sex, and nearly every human (and many in the animal kingdoms) wanks because it feels good. Religion takes something normal, calls it broken and evil, then wants to sell you the cure. It would be laughable if religion didn't bring such misery and shame to people. Many of us who followed the faith whole-heartedly are now leaving in droves. We figured out that it simply was never true. Genesis didn't happen, the Exodus never happened, on and on. No one hears your many prayers, which is why they go unanswered. The church is as absurd as those that dress up like Klingons and have conventions, except more harmful because it is pretend that doesn't think it is pretend.

It is uncanny how religious doctrine is nearly universally wrong about everything regarding sex and sexuality.

 

They call lust a deadly sin when it is often the first step in what becomes a long term, healthy and happy relationship.  They say that premarital sex is wrong and can damage a future marriage when there is no data to support the idea that those that waited for marriage have better or more successful marriages.  Masurbation has been shown to have significant physical and mental health benefits.  And don't even get me started about the bigotry shown to lgbt individuals.

 

There is something to be said about some of the shady practices in the porn business, but that is a problem with the industry and not with porn itself.

 

 

Religion takes something normal, calls it broken and evil, then wants to sell you the cure. It would be laughable if religion didn't bring such misery and shame to people.

The sexual drive is such a natural part of being human.  The archaic thinking that makes it a mortal sin is just, archaic thinking.  It's obvious after all of these years that human beings aren't buying it.  They can see thru the ruse. They aren't going to live their lives believing that the only time sex is permissible is if you're married and actively trying to make a baby.  People are stupid, but they aren't that stupid. Having an active sex life without shame adds immensely to the quality of a person's life.  And that includes masturbation.  

 

You can bet that a large number of those U.S. bishops who are freaked out about it struggle with it themselves.  Because the more taboo you make something the more you give it power over you.  If you want to believe you've committed a mortal sin after you've masturbated then go sacrifice a dove or stack some rocks or something to atone for it.  It's all the same nonsense from an ignorant time. 

 

Masturbation is just no big deal.  And to make it larger than life is just dumb.

Note to bishops:  give yourselves a break, man.  Don't jump off a bridge because you touched yourself and committed an Onanism.
