SerenelyBlue
I look at a computer and I see that a computer does not need a soul to be able to do things like humans. Solve problems, play chess etc. If a computer can "think" without a soul then surely our brain is a biological computer. AI is not here yet as far as I know, but being born in a generation of computers makes us see that the computer can mimic the human mind. One day AI will be here. If AI can think and function without a soul, surely I don't need a soul either. It makes sense that the brain constitutes a powerful biological computer. Also if you look at other animals... When they die they die don't they. No afterlife. They are sentient to differing degrees. Maybe we are simply another animal with no afterlife. We think an animal's worth is less than ours, but is it really? We are an animal with no soul and afterlife. Most homo sapiens are deluded by various forms of "fairy tales". There is no evidence of a personal God. Heck there is no evidence of an impersonal god. I am an agnostic atheist because I don't see any proof for a theistic God, but I leave open a door in case he is discovered in future. I am waking up slowly but surely and am seeing this world for what it is. Deconversion is a hell of a ride. I think I am finally sane.
SerenelyBlue
I say these obvious things, but to me they sound brand new. I thought my deconversion was over, but reality takes a while to set in.
rjn
Not that I disagree or anything, but let's say humans DO possess a soul, what says animals don't? I guess that's the animistic pagan in me talking... EDIT: Oh yeah, the GOOD BOOK might disagree with that nation, but you know what? Fuck it. EDIT AGAIN: NOTION, not nation. I'm drunk. yunea
Beautifully put, Serenely Blue. I think animals might be more sentient than they get credit for, but yes, basically we're just another animal.

mymistake
Please don't take this the wrong way SB but that is how you usually talk a few days before you go manic again. Watch for the signs. I do hope I am wrong about this but maybe it will help you manage if you realize it as it is happening. Be prepared.

Mythra
You are sane, sir. The sentiment in your first post would be supported and echo'd by a great majority of mainstream scientists of all disciplines, including biology, cognitive neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, chemistry and physics. All animals function just fine without a soul. Including homo sapiens.
