The sociopathic Christians all seem to be seeking the Republican nomination.

I doubt the idea of Christian sociopaths, not because Christians can't be evil bastards (they can), but because sociopaths are inherently so into themselves that religion would not attract them, particularly one where they have to bow down to a higher power and let that power control them. But I agree that Christianity produces arrogance and delusions, for all its apparent emphasis on humility.

I think a lot of corrupt preachers and priests can be found in the sociopath-category though. It's the perfect position for people who want to exalt themselves and use their position of power to get their way.

Sure, sociopaths who pretend to be Christian so they can leech off other people. Those certainly exist. I was thinking that people who really believe Jesus saved their souls and the rest of it probably are not sociopathic.

Not saying you're wrong (nor was I even implying it in my previous post) but I'm not entirely sure you're right either. A sociopath can be just as deluded as any other person, right? Given how full of themselves some religious fanatics can be, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there are plenty of sociopaths among them. People who are devout, believing themselves to be God's chosen. As we all know, being Christian does not necessarily entail being meek and humble.

Sociopaths can be deluded too, but they are the way they are innately. A Christian can change his or her beliefs and the delusion is a result of the religion, whereas sociopaths' delusions are a result of their disorder.

Right, but what keeps a sociopath from having his/her deluded mind infected by Christian delusions?

Because the Christian faith isn't just about the privileged spiritual status, but revolves around submission to God and other people. A sociopath might believe that he has a special relationship with a god (although then he's likely to be psychotic based on this), but that doesn't make him a Christian. He would need to believe that he is sinful and bad and needs God to save him. Sociopaths are self-centered and manipulative due to their brain disorder, and the idea of submission and needing someone on a basic level would turn them off. Christianity also pushes the message of turning the other cheek, giving your shirt to someone who demands your coat - sociopaths would find Christians useful to take advantage of them.

When I look at Fred Phelps and his entire family, as well as many Muslims (just as examples) I know that religion and sociopathy (and psychopathy) are very compatible.   People with ASPD thrive on manipulating and controlling others, so any religious environment is their playground.  Religion is full of broken, weak and defective people who literally beg to have every aspect of their lives controlled, so it's the perfect setup.   I also think people with ASPD can believe the religion they practice, but they always have their own self-interests in mind first and foremost.

BTW, this was me when I was a Christian so I can also say this from my own experience...
