Popular Post Daffodil
Ok, wow, this, wow, ok, breathe . . . The proper response to a man raping your 14-year-old daughter is to beat-the-ever-loving-shit-outa-him-to-within-an-inch-of-his-life-and-go-to-jail-for-it-if-necessary-because-that's-your-baby-girl, not make him marry her. I almost wonder if there's more to this story than they're telling us.

TheLyniezian
He's just following his bible. This makes me ill. I've read that the original Hebrew des make it contentious as to whether the passages in question are actually talking about rape, but as other have pointed out, that culture didn't seem to have much of a well-developed concept of sexual consent being a basic requirement anyway, which kind of nullifies the former defence. That being said, if the man in question was basing his actions on such interpretations of such passages, it makes it seem all the worse given that. Daffodil
You know the articles about this do not indicate a strong religious component. The verses quoted were from the Patheos writer and the guy's lawyer suggested that there might have been a religious aspect to it (probably to try to lessen the ugliness factor). This is why I think there might be more to this story than they're telling us. My suspicion is that the father was ok with the "relationship" (in quotes because how do you have a relationship with a 14-year-old!?), as long as she didn't get pregnant. If she did, then he sure as hell was not going to support that baby so a shotgun wedding was arranged. Nevertheless, it was still at least statutory rape if not out-and-out rape, and the father was only concerned about the pregnancy part of it. Excuse me while I gag . . . Excuse me while I gag . . . To be fair, relationships can function with that constellation, though I'm sure it's not all too common. But even if this was one of the few healthy ones, the forced marriage is more than fucked up, even if we ignore the girl's age.
