The space agency has been trying to get in contact with the spacecraft since October 1st, 2014, when the last signal from STEREO-B was received on Earth. Finally on Sunday, NASA was able to pick up a signal from the vehicle using the Deep Space Network, or DSN — an international network of large radio antennas used for communicating with spacecraft. mwc
As I understand it they can talk with it but it's still not working correctly. They've got to still figure out a way to take control of the thing. They don't want to simply turn it on since they figure it will just go wonky again. So they've got to come up with some new software they can send to it that can fix the problem. Only this patch has to occur in the short window before the old software comes online and screws things up again. Getting in contact with it sure is good news but they've still got some tricky work left to do before they're home free. mwc
Lyra
Did the spacecraft have people on it? Or was it like a robot craft type thing with no people?
