...but seriously...

Fuck you!

Yes, that's it. That's all. FUCK YOU! Fuck you, and fuck your God, fuck your Jesus! I don't give a damn about your hurt feelings.

If you sincerely believe your fellow man deserves eternal punishment, then you ARE NOT a moral person!

"But oh, this totally awesome authoriative figure said I was..."

I'm sorry, but you're simply a gullible idiot or an asshole! I either feel sorry for you, or you're a complete asshole.

You sincerely believe your fellow man deserves punishment - ANY KIND OF PUNISHMENT? - simply for BEING ALIVE? Well, looks like I'm not the one with a problem here...

Do some soul searching or go fuck yourself, you self-righteous bastard.

Whoa. Random rage, or did something bring this on?

I hear you, though! Can't stand the self-righteousness and egocentrism inherent in fundyism. Reprobates unite!

Ah, it appears rjn heard this mornings service at my church. That wasn't quite my reaction, but similar.

This is a real summary of one of the part of the service this morning talking about Cain and Abel (Everyone knows who they are right?):

"God gave Cain a chance to repent even though God KNEW he wouldn't repent. So what if Cain had repented? God still wouldn't have accepted his repentance, but because God is not unjust he gave Cain the opportunity to repent even though he didn't have it in him, because God planned it from the beginning"

That's not exact quotes but captures the gist.

And I'm sitting there thinking are you even thinking about what you are implying there?? It's like imagining a person is on the ledge of a cliff and I hold out my hand pretending to be good, then if the person goes to take it I snatch it away and let the person fall. Then proclaim I was good for holding out my hand. WTF!!????

Let us say, lets assume, that that the God of the bible does actually exist. In what universe would you want to willingly worship him? He could turn round and throw you to hell at any time because its in his 'plan'.

At this point please go and reread rjn's opening post.

Drunken rage. I still stand behind what I wrote though.

I can get behind the message of forgiveness, detaching oneself from various "vices" and all that, but the smug self-righteousness and judgemental attitude towards EVERYONE who isn't a TRUE CHRISTIAN™ might just be the most off-putting thing I know.

"God gave Cain a chance to repent even though God KNEW he wouldn't repent. So what if Cain had repented? God still wouldn't have accepted his repentance, but because God is not unjust he gave Cain the opportunity to repent even though he didn't have it in him, because God planned it from the beginning"

Haha, what in the actual fuck?

This sky fairy apparently cannot be surprised by human behavior.  That must be quite boring.  Poor little imaginary sky fairy.

You may be a proud, evil reprobate, rjn...

...but at least you aren't an intellectually dishonest coward who prefers simplistic and comforting beliefs, over the facts.

Christianity: Where good people are thought bad and bad people are thought good.

Isn't the disgusting philosophy of christianity great?? You are born with 3 strikes already against you and you're going to burn in hell for all of eternity for being a human. What wonderful news these loons bring to us. If only I could have been born something less vile in god's eyes, like a cockroach or a piece of dog shit or something.

Oh well. smile.png

Whilst some may be shocked by your moral outrage at this, I'm surprised more don't share your sentiment. Yes, as you say, fuck Jesus. Forget that Christians believe in creationism, talking asses, and an effeminate bearded man who performs video game style miracles. Christians believe in the morally reprehensible doctrine of eternal conscious torment for non-Christians. They have successfully invented a punishment that even Hitler doesn't deserve.

I fully concur that these self-righteous illegitimate sons should perform sex acts upon themselves rather than preach such a vile "gospel." Good news indeed.

Well, in hindsight I must admit I may have chosen my words a bit poorly ;)

I try to act in a mature, well-mannered and civilized way but sometimes, heh, anger gets the best of me I guess.

I don't mind Jesus so much as the Fundagelical version of him, and the kind of people that sort of belief tends to create. If Jesus makes you happy and aids you in being a charitable, loving person, good riddance! But if Jesus inspires you to be a morally bankrupt judgemental asshole? Well, screw him!

The point I'm trying to make here is that every believer has it's own conception of what God/Jesus is. A Quaker will not have the same Jesus as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Actually I think so called "Fundigelicals" accurately portray the Biblical Jesus. The true evil of Jesus seems self evident from the Bible itself, even without the imposition of a modern American interpretation. Seems to me that the only good Christians out there are the ones who don't take the Bible seriously.

I know this is your stance, since you rarely miss an opportunity to express it. Maybe you're right, but I'm not entirely convinced. Maybe Jesus (if he existed at all) was a mouth-breathing zealot, who knows? I'm inclined to believe however, that the earliest, original sects of Christianity were fairly heterogenous, since there was no canon. I think a lot of the "Fire and Brimstone"-crap was accentuated by and pushed for by the RCC, and given even more emphasis later by other fundamentalists. A lot of the Hell-crap in - for instance - the KJV, can be discarded as mistranslations or misinterpretations of the original meaning. Not even the English word "Hell" itself means "Place of eternal torment" originally; it's just the Germanic counterpart (the Nordic Godess of the Underworld, Hel, is theorized by some to be connected Kali btw) of Greek Hades, or Hebrew Sheol, the Abode of the Dead.

Then, of course, there's that thing whether one should read the Bible literally or symbolically? Do you and most of your Hindu compatriots take the Gita at face value, thinking the Battle of Kurukshetra actually happened in the real world, or is it a mythological retelling, where the main purpose is the spiritual/philosophical instructions given to Arjuna, not the events as such?
