Goodbye Jesus

The True Horror Of Hell

Picture a woman, working in a small office. The new boss makes a pass at her, she doesn't like it, he keeps trying and it makes her anxious. He spies on her emails, gives her poor appraisals and is a general jackass. She cries at night, feels alone and vulnerable, but she does has options.

She could quit, she could find a sympathetic burly male friend or two to lean in on the creep. She could file for harassment.

She should not have to suffer and there various options open to her.

Now we come to Jesus and hell. Picture a woman, working in a small church, her pastor constantly tells her she is destined to hell, she doesn't like it , he keeps at her and the fear of hell makes her highly anxious.......she doesn't have any real options to escape this fear (should she be a true believer). This to me is the absolute horror of Christianity, the threat of hell hangs over you , no matter how many times you pray and beg god to forgive you for a crime committed prior to your existence. Narrow is the path to Heaven so says the Bible, but wide and welcoming is the road to hell seems to be the central theme.

Christians say you only have to come to Jesus to be saved (from his dad), yet look how many different churches battle with each other over doctrine. Heck even Peter and Paul argued over was getting a magic golden ticket and if two founders couldn't agree, what chance does the rest of us have, none it would seem.

How do Christian know they are "saved", they don't, they might be tricked into a false belief, buy Satan, by god himself, sending a "powerful delusion" (he is after all the author of evil).

This to me is the true horror of hell, you can never "know" if you are going to avoid it and peoples minds and well being are ruined by the threats and yells of long dead savages and monsters

Christians know because the spirit witnesses within them.

Or so they tell me.

Same way that they know all the other Christians aren't really Christians.

Apparently...

Ah , the "I have a magic ghost living inside me" defence , that Christians are so fond of........

But how do they know they have the real magic ghost and not a pretend one inserted by satan

I was always so much of a 'sinner' in the eyes of the Pentecostal church (according to their doctrine) that I never had the feeling that I would truly make the entrance into the gates of heaven. I always pictured myself explaining to god why I loved to listen to Carlos Santana and dance behind everyone's back in the church. (Plus other secular music and a few other things that went against the church) That was a big sin in our church. I was always worried that god would tell me I was sitting on the fence and say, ''Turn away from me - I never knew you''. It made me crazy. I spent a lot of time asking for forgiveness just so I wouldn't land up in hell. Made me very depressed. What a horrible doctrine.

I was taught that if you asked for forgiveness and meant it, you were saved. Don't know what they thought about OSAS, although one member said she believed in that.

Because of wilful ignorance, blind faith, arrogance, self-righteousness and wishful thinking based on a very human need: self-preservation.
