Ice Ages And Crackpot Theories

Hi all

I have been researching a hypothesis that the last ice age can account for the flood myths that abound in cultures around the world. While on this research I end up on Answers to Genesis, (https://answersingenesis.org/answers/books/frozen-in-time/genesis-flood-caused-the-ice-age/) and I think, well ok, I'll see what these guys say. It's always interesting to see how they will accept or use one scientific principle and reject others, fairly arbitrarily.

So I come across this line:

Uniformitarianism has not been able to explain the Ice Age, or events related to the Ice Age. Ice sheets are not developing and melting today so we have no way to actually observe how they developed in the past.

CITATION PLEASE!

What batshit fantasy do these people live in? (Ok, I know, they are creationists... what did I expect?, blah blah, go easy on me.)

The statement about ice sheets not developing or melting today is so..... batshit crazy. It doesn't take too much effort to look up a mountain of research that shows that ice sheets are melting. The polar ice caps, Antarctica, both losing ice, permafrost in Siberia disappearing, glaciers in New Zealand... gone! Even allowing their 'theories' to be true, the statement above is still false.

Idiots.

Right now I have vented I'll go do something more productive.

PS: Relating to the first bit of the AiG line, does anyone know off the top of their head whether scientist have managed to work out what caused the various ice ages through history?

LF,

NOAA dot gov is one source that will lead you to others in your search.

*I* live in the midst of the area caused by Spokane/Missoula/Bretz Flooding    What I love about out here in this part of Pacific Northwest is evidence of many floods having affected earth and rock for years. One Flood? 100 Floods? Hard to say, even those geologists who study this area are continually finding new information about where and when.

Seriously, when I first moved to Oregon's Columbia River Basin and the eastern end of Columbia River Gorge had NO idea that falling deeply into its roots, formations and "looks" would rivet me here.

Ice sheets indeed have everything to do with waters backed up and impounded. Cretinists and Uniformitarians hate having to discuss how and why signs of violent floods happening and more than just "...one gentle ice age causing.." Channeled Scablands and other features here in WA/OR.

Thanks SkipnChurch

That read about the Missoula flooding was interesting, and rather pertinent to my little research project.
