Goodbye Jesus

Lucifer Made Himself Known To Me

Lucifer told me that I am going to burn in hell. I laughed because Satan is a mythical character. He said he is real, but I only laugh at that. I can't shut him up. Anyone else got psychosis problems?

You're bipolar, are you not?

If you truly hear voices, that is concerning. Forgive me if you've mentioned it - are you in therapy for this issue?

So, any idea how these psychotic episodes are triggered? I've never suffered an outright psychosis - though I suspect I've been close to having one on several occasions (tenuous grip on reality, delusions, paranoia and so on) - but I've found anxiety attacks usually occur when I'm subjected to a lot of stress. Not implying they're the same thing, but there might be some similarities as to how they're triggered.

You are aware that "Lucifer's voice" is generated entirely in your brain and is, in essence, internal thoughts projected upon an imaginary construct.  I would think that being aware of this as it is occurring is a significant factor in managing your mental health.

Nowhere in the Bible is Satan called Lucifer. Lucifer is a Latin name. So, Lucifer couldn't have told you that you would burn in Hell, because Lucifer doesn't exist.

Here's how Christians fool themselves:

http://www.kjv1611.org.uk/niv_calls_lucifer.htm

Opening excerpt from link above: "(1) Just about everybody knows the word "Lucifer" as another name for Satan. The word "Lucifer" is found one time in the King James Bible.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"

Note the opening that the Isiah reference is the name of Satan. This mistake comes from not understanding that the verse in question is not a reference to Satan/Devil at all - it is referring to (if I remember correctly) the prince of Babylon.

Also Christian's have over time rather messed up their concepts. On one hand they refer to Satan as Lucifer, the morning star who fell from heaven, then in the New Testament Jesus is referred to as the bright and morning star. So the writers getting a little mixed up there.

So where did this bright and morning star concept come from?

Well in various older mythologies Venus was characterised as the morning star. The 'star' that rises in the morning sets in the evening etc. This had various roles and symbologies in the mythos, and was conceivably adopted by the bible writers.

This is always a good tutorial on Satan and Lucifer and the whole evolution of conceptualizing these myths.

I knew that the serpent of Genesis was never identified as Satan in the OT (never at all until Revelation, apparently), but I hadn't realized how the evil one evolved in the course of the scriptures. Thanks for sharing this!

Just an aside, I had to attend the funeral of a young man who blew his own brains out in a john boat in the middle of a lake. This was the grand finale after several failed suicide attempts. He began hearing the devil and the voices in his head wouldn't stop. He jumped off a low bridge on an interstate highway previous to finally blowing his brains out. It was a very bizarre funeral. And even more bizarre was my ex-fiance completely believing that a literal devil had possessed this young man and drove him to suicide. She took especial offense to any suggestion that it all may have been in the mind of this mentally disturbed kid.

I suppose that logical reasoning and academic considerations my have no result on curing voices and imaginations. But it might. I would have liked to see what would have happened if the kid had to study things like the evolution of satan in the Bible as part of some therapy.

Another curious question I have is what would people with certain psychosis hear or see in the absence of mythological or religious knowledge? Would they invent their own version of something similar? Would raw mental torment produce some type of accuser figure in the mind? It's interesting to consider.

Lucifer has become so popular in the U.S. he got his own TV show in prime time. I watched a couple shows but didn't find it entertaining enough to to become a fan. I'm not sure if it's still on the air.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"

...This mistake comes from not understanding that the verse in question is not a reference to Satan/Devil at all - it is referring to (if I remember correctly) the prince of Babylon.

Very close. It refers to the king of Babylon. Verse 12 is part of a quote that begins in verse 4, which says:

That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! (Isaiah 14:4)

That is clearly addressing the king of Babylon. Not once does the passage anywhere mention Satan or the Devil. Christians rip verse 12 completely out of context when they claim that it gives Satan the name Lucifer.

Besides, "Lucifer" doesn't even come from the original Hebrew; it is simply a transliteration of the Latin translation of the Hebrew term for morning star. The King James Version relied heavily on the Latin translation of the Bible, which is why the Latin term Lucifer found its way into the KJV but is not in most other translations.
