    Last Goodbyes

    By TheBluegrassSkeptic

Death for me over the years has rarely been difficult to process and move on. I've buried quite a few, only mourned a couple. The two I mourn are now memories I guard so earnestly a mother bear could not rival my ferocity. These two people immediately bring on the wet eyes and short tight breaths when I just so much as think on their lives, their influence, and my loss.   This past January I experienced a third loss of someone very important in my life. It's hit me very hard, and I am surprise

Battlefield 2 & Other stuff in life

Anyone play Battlefield 2? It's a fun online shooter game set in the modern day battlefield. I've been playing like crazy. So much that I've been having flashbacks.   In the game you play as either USA, China or the Middle Eastern Coalition. It's pretty damn fun. You can fly fighter jets, and helicopters, and also drive tanks, jeeps and APCs. One can be a sniper, anti-tank, assault, special forces, medic, engineer or heavy weapons soldier. I tend to use any of the above depending on my mood

One step forward, two cricket bats to the head.

Fuck my back hurts.   It fucking hurts. I just can’t fucking think straight any more, it’s so fucking painful.   The cause is scoliosis, apparently. I've been seeing a physio for the past 2 months, it's kind of working, but… I’d just wish someone would actually massage and work the painful muscles! I saw a masseur recently, based on the recommendation of some work colleagues, who swore a masseur would really do the job. They said he’ll really dig into and work those offending muscles,

Raising Mom & Dad

My dad turned 78 yesterday. I bought him a pair of good quality, name-brand tennis shoes. I've had shoes of the same brand before and I really liked them, so I had a happy little feeling in getting my dad a good, sturdy pair of shoes to replace the discount-store junk he usually wears.   I and my siblings have purchased tons of toys and accessories for Mom and Dad: A self-propelled lawnmower, a kayak, a gym membership, trendy clothes & jewelry, etc. I don't resent it; in fact I enjoy

Research on Pontius Pilate

Recently I have been researching and writing an article on Pontius Pilate to post on this site. I have found a good bit of material, a lot of it myth only, but some hard kernels of history also. In reading and writing of this individual, dead for nearly 20 centuries, I have come to admire him. He was a Roman provincial administrator, undoubtedly a military man and by his family name; a member of a prominent Samnite family with a strong tradition of military service. He seems to have been a

Talking with Spiritualists

Ever read or listen to other people's "accounts" about spirits, other worlds, other realities, other dimensions, and/or other supernatural occurrences? Ever start asking them questions, and you get a response like, "It can't be explained." Or "It's hard to explain." Or "You wouldn't understand." Oh, really? Well, the acceleration due to gravity is difficult to explain, but I understand it and can express it mathematically. The same thing applies to the conservation of energy, kinetic energy, mom

These people suck

*Sigh*   People drive me nuts. I know I'm not the smartest person around, but why is it that the people around me are idiots? Why don't they care to do their jobs the way they are supposed to? Frankly, I'd be embarrassed to go about my day the way some of these folks do.   I have my own job to do, and yet I'm constantly interrupted so I can help someone use their out of office reply or find Microsoft Word in their computer. How can anyone be that dense? They work here right along side

New workplace, new challenge

Finally, it has been decided. I'm one of those who leave our production line support team at Auto5000, and I'll head for the Volkswagen bank in nearby Braunschweig.   Had a talk to that team's project leader. He seems okay, and from what I've seen of my future workplace, it will be absolutely cool! You know, back then in 2002/2003, I learned a heap of stuff (you gotta know something to become an MCSE, MCDBA and LPI-C1 ) that I could never use "here" at Auto5000, because we never had sufficie

Religious rant copied from my LJ

As of late, I have noticed that Dubya has complained a lot of legislating from the branch I happen to feel that there is a bigger problem to worry about.   Legislating from the pulpit. This notion that the religious should have any control over the US Government, and that they should be free to use their religion to codify law. That is not their right to do. I don't care that the majority is supposedly Christian (tyranny of the majority is still tyranny). I consider the Bible to be a book wri

Quick rant on Christianity

In the world in which we all live, we have the natural, and the supernatural. The natural consists in the observations, examinations, and experiences of who we are and the life that each of us lives. The supernatural, or 'other than natural', consists of that which permeates our minds, absent of the reflections that consist naturally. Very few (scientists, philosophers, etc) take the time to write down what it is they have observed and experienced, unless it is other than 'normal'. The normal re

This is why we do it

Hope is intoxicating.   It has passed the 90 degree mark at every horse show I've competed in this summer. Riding around in tall boots, breeches, long sleeved shirt with a collar appropriately dubbed a "choker", wool-blend coat, and black hunt helmet in 96 degrees is pure foolishness to most people. When I go to take the clothes off, they are sopping wet. I convinced a friend to bring her horse along a few weeks ago, and she looked as though she was melting before she even got on her horse

Thomas Paine quote

This quote from Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason summarizes why I quit going to church:   "Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving, it consists in professing to believe what one does not believe."   In other words, since I no longer believed in the Biblical God, I could not have been true to myself by remaining a Christian.

Some hope for tomorrow!

Last evening, my beloved lady and I attended a graduation party of a friend's sister. Considering the sheer amount of hard drink that was ready to be consumed, and the open declaration of her brother "We didn't buy beer or wine or any other wimpy stuff - this evening's motto is to get stoned, dammit!", I looked forward to some fun of course... but guess what - after no more than 30 minutes, half of the gang (except for me and my beloved, all were students, and not all of them had even graduated

The Structure and Necessity of Faith

The Structure and Necessity of Faith Ben B.   There are three, and only three, all-inclusive proofs used for supporting faith on part of the theist. For a person to have faith, he needs Belief, Written Works, and Witnesses.   1. Belief The faithful must believe a set doctrine to be true. It does not matter what this consists of, as long as it is definable. One may choose to believe Christ will return before the great tribulation, or that he will return afterwards. All that matters, is

De-converting the Christian

De-converting the Christian Ben B.   The goal of christianity is readily observable to anyone who researches history. Every torturous and bloody crusade and inquisition of old, to the less violent and less deadly missionary incursions of today, always completed with fortunes spent on political lobbying to this effect, is testament to how they seek to assimilate every non-believer by force, law, and fear. What they can not achieve forcefully overnight, they reserve themselves to the subtlene

The Secret Gospel of Steve

The Secret Gospel of Steve. A Satire. 5/14/05 Ben B.     *These apocryphal papyrus fragments were discovered in the caves of Qum'ran. They describe the lost years of Jesus’ life on earth, and subsequent second coming, by the previously unknown Apostle Steve. The Roman Catholic Church has added these fragments to the list of heretical works. -Editor   Chapter I.   The book of the generation of Steve, the son of Mike, whose distant third-cousin twice removed is Jesus the Christ,

The Sign of the Virgin

The Sign of the Virgin A Satire. 5/12/05 Ben B.   The town of Wayford, population 491, is a quiet rural farming community, where the law is respected and family values are held with the utmost respect. Corn, wheat, pigs, cows, and chickens are the usual produce of the land. Mr. Johnson knows how to plant tomatoes that are the best in the land, it is said. Mrs. Olson still bakes her own bread, compared to no other, and is obliged to make a batch for anyone who asks. Communion has more th

Managers - twits in suits

Aaah, what a great beginning for a weekend.   Today at work, we had an extraordinary team meeting including our CEO. The message? "Our customer has decided, effective July 1st, to pay for two people on the early and late shifts, one for the night shift, one dispatcher, and half a project leader. Furthermore, one office supporter will stay here for the rest of the year to train the workers employed by our customer - next year they will completely take over the office support branch". Let's

Get over yourselves

I have been invited to 3 baby showers this month. While I like these women and wish them the best, I can't help but feel used. As an intentionally unmarried, childless person, I do not put the strain on other people in the way of gifts for various milestones. The feeling I get is kind of like when you go to Pampered Chef or Partylite parties, but never hold one yourself. The host racks up extra goodies, depending on how much her guests spend on their overpriced items, and the only way to eve
