  1. Something on my mind this morning... Most of us probably do enjoy looking at nice, shiny, smooth, airbrushed photos of impossibly good-looking men and women, but we know that’s not reality, and we enjoy snuggling up to a “real” person, who undoubtedly will have a few wrinkles and bulges. But I got to thinking how Christianity was very much like having a spouse who insists on pushing you to have plastic surgeries all the time to “fix” what you were born with in order to fit some made-up standard. “Spiritually” (mind, emotions, whatever) a Christian is never ok. Color this attitude over with “Christian virtues.” Let’s cut away this sense of yourself. Put in some fake piety implants, and botox this sarcastic, cussing streak over here. Do a “lift” on those occasional blues, and “tuck” these natural appetites in. And finally, for god’s sake, put on this corset, this “breastplate of righteousness” so no one can see your actual shape!!! I just realized this is why so many of us struggle with self-image for so long after deconversion. The constant sense of having to change and fix ourselves carries over into the physical as well as the inner aspects of our lives. Of course in the physical sense, we still try to take care of ourselves and be clean and attractive, and mentally, we try to get along with most people in our world, and play nice, and all that, but it’s a real relief to finally be GOOD ENOUGH just as I am!!

  3. Did that. Left God a message. He hasn't called back yet. Plus "earnestly" is a weasel word enabling the Christian to wriggle out of God's inevitable non-response with "oh you didn't really mean it" or some such shit.
