  1. There's a lot of hurt people on this site, for obvious reasons, and there are also vultures who come here to peck on the weak and weary. It's bound to have a lot of tension. I'm amazed that it maintains itself as well as it does (I don't really hang around ToT though). Not all americans are dicks... I hope we have an opportunity to show that at some point

  2. Nope, I can't handle it, I'm completely triggered now. That's it, I'm off to my safe space to snuggle bunnies and listen to whale song

  3. I take you seriously H. I don't swing by the Lions Den as often as I used to so I might miss a post here and there but I do and always have taken you seriously. I understand that what you think and that what you believe is bigger than "take your meds!" and stuff like that. If you are coming from the place I think you are coming from, I've been there.

  4. I, as the moderator for Rants, have been following this thread and posted one of the first responses to it. Politics and religion can cross all boundaries, including rants, so I will let it stay here . This thread won't get sent to TOT. But if it gets out of line, I will lock it and leave it here as the Epic Rant it is. The thread is about Rule #2, Don't Be A Dick. So everybody, please stay on topic while making your comments -- and Don't Be A Dick while making them. Thanks.

  5. Alright, people of Ex C. Are you ready? At the outset, I’m going to make one promise, and one promise alone: This Rant Is Not About Donald Trump. It's not about politics. That's why I'm posting it here, and not in ToT. Caveat: I will discuss Trumpipants before I am done. Relax, libruls. I’m one of you at heart. Relax, others. I still love you. Disclaimer(s): I’m not a leftist. I’m not pushing an agenda. I’m a Canadian, not a MURICAN (™). I don’t align myself with either the left or the right, but rather with those who attempt to think clearly. So

  6. Exactly - if I haven't seen it with my own eyes it doesn't exist.... speaking of which I have never seen you... ipso facto...

  8. @disillusioned Epic Fucking Rant. Pretty much spoke my mind. Canadians and New Zealanders must think alike... even if NZ doesn't exist in the minds of some

  9. Religion & politics are different subjects. I try to steer clear of political discussions because they tend to become too similar to Christians debating atheists. Nobody pays much, if any, attention to what the other person is saying because they don't care. Each side is convinced the other side is wrong, but just too bullheaded to admit it. So people end up talking past each other and nothing is accomplished and few, if any, minds are changed. Apparently, that is just what humans do. It seems to me if you are not religious you're expected to be politically liberal. If you are

  10. I'm spending a lot of thought lately on WHY I was attracted to religion in the first place. I was raised Catholic, but only in a "meh" kind of way. I quit going to Mass around 14 and no one really cared too much. It wasn't until my mid-teens when I learned of evangelical Christianity, and my early 20's when I dove in. My own choice. Not parents, not spouse, not friends. Deconversion came in my mid-30's, and it was full and complete. Or so I thought. I really struggled to stay atheist. I gradually made my way back into the circle... first via personal "searching", then via Episcopa

  11. My advice would be to not live your life chained by others opinions. If you are in a position where you are responsible for yourself and financially independent then you owe it to yourself to be true to yourself. Take it from someone who has been through family drama surrounding telling them I didn't believe in God - they will try all sorts of things (Maybe not intentionally, but its manipulative all the same). I had my mother rolling on the floor saying she was having a heart attack. You cannot control how people react, you can only be honest with them and yourself.

  12. Youve had a rough go of things recently I recall. I think you are ok and this is possibly a mix if stress, maturing, decinverting, etc., etc. I say this because I struggle with some of these things when life has been tough gor a stretch of time. Youre smart and tough. Just hang in there and dont stress too much? *hugs*

  13. I don't know if this will help or not, but I have a suggestion to try out for size. How about focusing your certainty needs, on uncertainty. Because uncertainty, in and of itself, is the most certain thing we have to go on. The entire universe extends from an underlying uncertainty. It's the actual "rock of ages" so to speak. So in accepting uncertainty for what it is, and being very certain about this fact of reality, you may be able to satisfy you needs for certainty in an intellectually honest and healthy way. It could work, possibly.

  14. We need to pay attention to not fall into this same trap as secularist's, as well. It can be easy to do sometimes.

  15. I'm a massive introvert as well, MOHO. (I don't remember how to tag you... hopefully you see this!) I think the ages of my kiddos have a lot to do with it. If I were single, or an empty nester, it would probably be different. But I'm at a point where community and family are so important.

  18. That’s because the people who wrote the Bible had no more knowledge than anybody else at the time. Just people trying to take a stab at explaining the world. No deity involved.

  20. Replication is an important part of science, I agree. You have indicated there isn't much replication of psi effect. I've read the opposite. Your article from a skeptic says psi is inconclusive while my article from pro-psi people say psi is an established effect. I think, in the end, it's a battle of opinions. My fools errand here in this thread was to challenge the repeated claim that I time and again see on this site that there is "no evidence of psychic powers", even though multiple studies are on the internet that show otherwise (my signature link has quite a few).

  21. Again, I beg you to read all of your previous posts on this site. Read from the beginning and be reminded of your ever changing definition of normal. I would not be disappointed that you or anyone else chose Christianity as their belief system, but it needs to be a free choice made by a clear mind.

  22. Benefit of doubt is why you're still here. We're waiting for you to swing back to your normal state. Hang in there.

  23. I need to follow Geezer’s example and stay the hell away from politics in this neighborhood. I don’t want to end up leaving this place, but ToT has driven me to the brink lately. It’s best to leave the politics to the handful of stalwarts who like to hear themselves pontificate. Cause they’re sure as hell not changing anybody’s minds.

  24. "If it will make you feel better, by all means, you have my blessing." Rather a confusing response for them. Of course my response varies with the individual. Some are harmless and irrelevant to me, others need a smack upside the head.
