  2. is uncluttering Her virtual and real-world desktops.

  3. is settling in for a long winter's nap... Followed by a Christmas morning breakfast of coffee and chocolate.

nice to know I'm not the only one to have a breakfast on chocolate & coffee :D

Of course, chocolate *also* goes well with a nice, dry Spanish cava. (That had to wait till about 4:30 in the afternoon, though, when we were clearing the dinner table.)

  4. is playing excerpts from A Charlie Brown Christmas at a concert tomorrow -- On piano instead of Her usual clarinet. :-D

      Awesome! I'm jealous! :D

  5. Sounds like time to start unfriending people and publicly dropping hints about restraining orders. Can you get a copy of the letter from your husband and put it up on your FB page (editing out names as necessary), with comments about the inappropriate, disrespectful, stalker-like behaviour going on?
  6. has handed in the Remembrance Day sheet music and is now inundated with Christmas tunes. Anyone for a rousing chorus of "Deck the halls with three green-sleeved kings (four if you count Wenceslas) on a sleigh ride"?

  7. is entering the NaNoWriMo zone. (cue eerie music)

Have fun! we just got some stuff done for winter too...the chill is in the air already, but right now..I LOVE it!! Hugs!

  9. is in teetotaler mode for the week because Amoxicillin and ethanol don't play nicely together.

One reason I hardly drink at all :( I've had DTs from mixing before and it is not a fun time. Glad you're being careful. Get better soon!

  10. has noticed that Her office décor aspires to the sublime *and* the ridiculous: Golden Idunna's apples, a Casablanca poster postcard, and a string of electric lizards.

      florduh

Electric Lizards. Great name for a band.

Florduh, you're not channelling Dave Barry, are you? :-D

  11. has too much stuff and not enough desk. *snif*

Thanks, End! I probably will be building another desk in the very near future - A nice open-concept L-shaped thing that fits into a corner of My office but leaves a clear path for the heat vent and all the wires that run from Hither to Yon. (And no clarinet today, as I played 3 sets last night and My lip is a bit frazzled, but I did work on guitar and keyboards instead.)

Akheia, the only thing that's kept Me sane in the Stuff department is the forum at Unclutterer dot com. We challenge one another to toss or give away at least 1 item a day till we reach an equitable truce with our possessions.

  12. Welcome to Ex-C, krby! The consequences of coming out as an atheist, and the risk of destroying cherished relationships, are both all too real. Feel free to rant any time, and if there's anything we can do to help we'll give it our best shot.
  13. is trying to decide whether to fix Her bicycle derailleurs, call in a repair pro, or just give the bike to someone else and let them worry about it.

      Margee

Go buy a brand new one hon!!You deserve it!

    2. PeaceOfMind

      PeaceOfMind

Depends on what is wrong with the derailleurs. Are the cables out of adjustment?

    3. Astreja

      Astreja

@PoM: Basic problem is that it's a really cheap bike, and probably wasn't set up properly in the first place. Cables are indeed part of the problem, as is the positioning of the front derailleur; back derailleur seems to be comparatively simple to adjust.

I do have a very good repair manual at hand, and after tinkering a bit I now actually have an idea of how derailleurs are supposed to work. Will make at least one more attempt.

  14. is practising string crossings on Her violin Vilma Wiolin Deutschesfiddle.

  15. Uh, James... There are already books about leaving Christianity, written by ex-Christians. Dan Barker is one of these. Before you spend another moment of your life on this project, ask yourself these marketing questions: What works are already in print, and what do I have to say that's substantially different? Do I, James Smith, have a personal experience with leaving religion? If you have never experienced the stress and heartbreak of having your worldview turned upside-down, and if you have nothing new to say on the topic from the point of view of an interested observer, perhaps you should be "researching" something where you already have a personal connection and a substantial body of knowledge. We aren't going to write your book for you. Well, Mr. Smith did specify that he wants to explore the subject of sexual guilt. Perhaps he's a voyeur with some profound religious hangups ?
  16. is now learning music analysis as part of Her summer harmony course. *meep*

  17. is taking a course in music harmony this summer.

:-D Thanks, Margee! (gets back to work on Her homework, a page full of V7-I cadences that need to be sorted out)

  18. (Springy G, a DL fan for the past 15 years, bows in respect to the Master of Past and Present) Welcome! There will be new friends who are true to who you are now, as long as you remain true to yourself. There may be grieving, and a lot of anger. Just take it one day at a time. If there's anything we can do to help. just ask.
  19. thinks there should be a "If you drink, don't embroider" Public Service Announcement. That needle took *forever* to thread... :-D

I managed to escape the dreaded Pointy Thing's wrath... This time. Didn't try to re-thread when I finished that strand of floss, though. 16 ounces of La Fin du Monde beer is roughly equivalent to 3½ standard North American beers, or 4 or 5 "light" beers.

  20. played a community band gig tonight.

    1. Astreja

      Astreja

What do we play? A little bit of everything, but mostly pops -- Sousa marches, works by modern band composers, movie themes, and medleys of everything from classical to 80s rock tunes. We had a couple of band members leading the crowd in doing the Macarena while we played, and the flute player stood up and belted out "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll" by Bob Seger. Had great fun playing "It Don't Mean a Thing" (Duke Ellington), which is one of My favourites.

That sounds like so much fun :)

I used to play euphonium in a community band, but I quit on account of the smell of old people, farting and the weird, 70-something old guy who always wore a FISHNET SHIRT to practice. It was just...uncomfortable.

  21. Electech, I agree that silence is your most powerful weapon here. Father-in-law will continue to make silly noises if you don't respond, and if he does it enough I foresee a time (however distant) where even *he* doesn't believe what he's saying. He wants a tug-of-war. Visualize yourself dropping your end of the rope and wandering away, then observe from a safe distance. It'll be... Entertaining.
  22. I'd be tempted to send a letter of resignation via registered mail to the church, with a "Do not contact me via any medium, including third parties. I have retained the law firm of __________ to pursue legal action against the church if I am harassed in any manner whatsoever." Obtain Legal Aid and CC your lawyer. If you actually do go to the meeting (but I strongly advise against it), go with legal counsel or anyone you can trust... And a video or audio recording device. Make it clear from the outset that the meeting will only go forward if they agree to let you record the whole thing. If they say no recording, shrug and walk out.
  23. much prefers Dragon Stout to Stella Artois light beer.

    1. Astreja

      Astreja

BrotherJosh, I think I've had Chimay before and found it rather tasty. I've also had regular Stella, and it was much better than this light crap.

Any recommendations on a good Aussie beer, Blackpudd1n? I'm always looking for new brews to try.

    2. blackpudd1n

      blackpudd1n

I don't actually drink, myself. Tooheys is a stock standard, Tooheys Old is a heavier beer, and Tooheys New is a mid-strength. But it kind of depends on which state you live in. Queenslanders like their XXXX Gold, Tasmanians Cascade, Victorians VB or Carlton, and NSW Tooheys. They're the main ones, maybe just have an Aussie beer afternoon and give them all a go :P

    3. blackpudd1n

      blackpudd1n

Oh, and a light beer over here just means light on alcohol content, not light on calories. When I was waitressing I was always having to explain that to the American tourists lol

  25. is not looking forward to dragging a queen-sized box spring down the stairs and out to the garage.
