    Friend dumped me over religion

2 Cornthians 6:14 is clear about this issue. If this particular Christian believes in the literal interpretation of the Bible they will not have anything to do with you. I lost friends as well. It is common for people to lose friends. Even after becoming a Atheist for a few years, I lost friends who got more involved in being a Christian. It's unfortunate but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. It may hurt but it is probably best for you too because they won't stop trying to convert you.
  2. It has been over 7 years since I first created my account. Over the years, I have grown as an Atheist. I have become less concerned with proving Christianity wrong & more with being apathetic on the issue. Perhaps I started out like that so I could prove something to myself. I was scared & doubtful. Today, I am confident. I really don't give a shit what people believe, so long as their beliefs are not pushed on me or anyone for that matter. The conversation these days is simple. I tell them I don't believe in their stupid Bible and they typically state that there is no need for further conversation. Without the Bible as the center of the issue they have nothing and, frankly, I have better stuff to do than argue with a dumb ass.

Thousands of children die of starvation every single days. Any god that would allow such a thing, deserves absolute contempt.

Ask yourself, can a "holy" god kill thousands of children, and still maintain his holiness? Absolutely not, but we find that the bible does attempt to, and that is a clear contradiction. The bible-god not only killed all the first born of Egypt, but he did it deliberately. In Exodus we find that god wants pharaoh to release his people, and though he was ready to do so, god hardens pharaoh's heart, and then proceeds to kill all their male first born. .

Adam and Eve's sons and daughter did indeed sleep with each other, as that was the only way to procreate, however, we find in the bible that incest is a sin, let alone, seeing a close relative naked. Therefore, we find a clear contradiction, that is irrefutable.
  8. Apperantly god didn't have any problem with incest, unless he created some guy we don't know about, to sleep with Adam's daughter.

If he did, then it completely invalidates the concept of "original sin" because that man would not be Adam's seed. That would in turn invalidate the purpose of Jesus, and therefore xianity in it's entirety.

"The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church." ~ Ferdinand Magellan " Truth does not demand belief. "For me, it is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfy and reassuring." ~ Carl Sagan "I felt a bit like a child, as though I was rediscovering the world. In particular, I remember a monthlong period in which I became flat-out fascinated with trees-- there was something beautiful about the way they branched out, cutting a tangled silhouette against the sky. I also became enthralled with sunsets, and to this day I still love watching sunsets. Everything seemed fresh and new. It was as if in my enthusiasm for the supernatural, I had overlooked all the beauty the natural world has to offer. Now I was playing catch-up, discovering all the neat stuff I'd missed. I also read dozens of science books during this time-- I decided it was time to find out how the universe really works, as I didn't want to ever be fooled again." ~ Rob Berry http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~slocks/quotes.html

    A Great Speech

I came across a speech by Charlie Chaplin in " The Great Dictator," and thought you'd enjoy it. I don't recall seing it posted already, so I hope you enjoy! Oh, and please forgive the bible verse. Hope… I’m sorry but I don’t want to be an Emperor – that’s not my business – I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls – has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in: machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little: More than machinery we need humanity; More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me I say “Do not despair”. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress: the hate of men will pass and dictators die and the power they took from the people, will return to the people and so long as men die [now] liberty will never perish… Soldiers – don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you – who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are men. You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don’t hate – only the unloved hate. Only the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers – don’t fight for slavery, fight for liberty. In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written ” the kingdom of God is within man ” – not one man, nor a group of men – but in all men – in you, the people. You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy let’s use that power – let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age and security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfil their promise, they never will. Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfil that promise. Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers – in the name of democracy, let us all unite!”
  19. It is time for the people of America to come together in solidarity to deal with the corruption and greed that is destroying our country. It doesn't matter what race you are, what religion you claim, what political stance you have, we need to come together. Please America, stand up and demand change! How can we live in a country like this, when so many have sacrificed their lives for a better America. How can we stand back as patriots, when we know our country is being destroyed. Let us unite!"

While I can appreciate the sentiment....the rhetoric sounds familiar to what the Christian Right has said for years.

It is amazing how similar both sides can be in the imagery they use.

If freewill exists then god gave to us to know when to leave Christianity.

HereticZero, thank you. Christians should have the freeWill to become "Ex-Christians." If they don't, then that would be an infringement on their freewill. For this exact reason, there has to be Ex-Christians. On top of that, the notion that Yahweh would never be denied, is not biblical, and it's an assumption.

"The limits on human understanding are profound, and what god is asking us to do is lie to ourselves and say "we know" without earning that certainty first. It attempts to assault an orderly set of certainties, held in porportion to the evidence, by laying out a ridiculous set of rewards and punishments to scare us or tempt us into belief. But pursuing such a certainty is vain, because an honest assessment of the evidence is the key to obtaining everything in life, and it only stands to reason it would be the key to obtaining any afterlife that might actually exist. If you give up your honesty, you give up everything else that might set you free." ~ MichaelS Ex-Chrustian.Net
