  1. All versions of fundamentalist Christianity exhibit enough cultish traits to qualify as a cult IMO.
  2. I don’t have a problem with Pantheism, but I wouldn’t classify it as a religion. To me it’s more like a philosophical way of looking at the universe, creation, and the laws of science, nature, physics and math.
  3. Unfortunately, this is an ugly part of the process out of religion. I wish I could tell you that it will get better but it may not.
  4. That which is forbidden is that which is most desired. When sex is labeled as sinful it automatically becomes even more enticing.
  5. Everyone’s journey is different. There is no right or wrong way to walk away, or to deal with the repercussions because everyone’s situation is different.
  6. Great thread but if I continue to read it I fear my brain will explode.
  7. Heretic! Blasphemer! I require a minimum of 2 cups in the morning just to get into the shower. Just more evidence that you never were a real Christian. What’s next, are you going to tell us you don’t like beer either!
  8. God is great. God has time to find lost keys, good parking places, and just the right dress for an upcoming party...and it’s on sale. God can’t be bothered with famine, human suffering, revealing the cure for cancer, and doesn’t have the time to stop mass shootings. Gods priorities seem a little puzzling to us mere humans.
  9. I think the sanctions are about their nuclear program & their attack on the tankers.
  10. B.O. never bothered me because I didn’t take him seriously. Some of his posts were funny and some were obviously just B.O. blowing off steam and being B.O. I’ve never encountered any poster on this site that has been a problem for me personally. Lots of good folks here and some exceptionally smart ones too.
  11. I saw an investigative journalist article today that indicates Trump called off the air strike against Iran because his military advisors admitted the drone was in Iranian air space when it was shot down.
  12. Welcome Luke. I think you will find this site helpful.
  13. The Bible is all a Christian has and their belief that it is true. My response when they quote scripture as validation for their argument. Sir, historians have proven beyond a doubt that the Bible is not literally true or historically accurate. It is simply a collection of theological myths and allegorical stories.
  14. Whatever the motivation might be the arguments both pro and con never change. I have no doubt the preachers arguments resonated with his audience because they don’t critically analyze his arguments or the Bible. Christians are basically sheep. They simply follow their leaders and believe what they’re told and never question anything. Those of us that are ex-Christians regained our critical thinking skills and began thinking for ourselves. Therefore the sin argument the preacher presented as the reason for people leaving the church is not true. Logic, reason, common sense, and evidence is what motivated us to leave religion. Christians reject all of that and blame our apostasy on their imaginary Devil because they are too brainwashed to come up with anything else, and that is truly sad.
  15. And the divorce rate might drop too.
  16. I’m so frig'n pissed. I wasted 47 years of my life, and a pile of money, pretending to be a Christian. And I’m so frig'n stupid I didn’t even know I was just pretending. That really sucks.
  17. I would certainly hope so. If a person is gay and Detective Grayson decided to shoot you, then you’ll likely be okay as it seems he can’t hit the broad side of a barn from close range with a pistol. If I was a policeman I sure wouldn’t want him being my backup.
  18. Why is that Knox County Detective/Preacher still on the Sheriff’s Dept.?
  19. I watch a lot of YouTube videos. I have a 97 Jeep Wrangler it’s my hobby car. My grandson is a GM mechanic and has replaced all the lights with LED’s and added some new fog lights and a couple of Amber cube lights on the windshield post. I recovered the seats and redid some interior stuff. It's only got 114,0000 miles on it and it’s in excellent mechanical condition. My wife and I love running around without the top on. Anyway I watch a lot of YouTube Jeep videos to get new ideas and see how to fix some minor maintenance problems. I accidentally ran across some marriage therapist videos and discovered Esther Perel. She is amazing. My wife has suffered lack of sexual desire for years. We’ve been married for 53 years and this problem has existed for at least 25+ of those years. I was surprised to discover how common this problem is for married couples all over the world. Lack of sexual desire apparently is the #1 issue in many if not most marriages. And as it turns out religion plays a role in this problem. Human sexuality is usually presented in a very negative light for children of devoutly religious people. This negative view of sex has long lasting consequences for children that are exposed to this sort of teaching. The divorce rates in Europe and America have stayed consistently around 50% for both religious and non-religious couples. Esther is unlike any couples therapist I’ve encountered. She is incredible, to say the least. If she isn’t the best in the world I can’t image who would be better. Our marriage is solid, we’re worked through our issues years ago, but I’m hooked on watching Esthers videos. They are enormously informative, and guys you especially need to watch her videos. I’ve learned a lot about women and their needs from watching her videos.

    Hello all!

The journey out of religion is almost always long, difficult, and emotionally draining. This site offers support from like minded folks that have taken this journey. Therefore, their experiences and insight can be quite helpful for those that are in the process of leaving their religion. I have no doubt you will find this site helpful in your journey too.
  21. According to the Gospel story. In order for God to save the world (that he’d previously all but destroyed). God impregnated Himself in the womb of a virgin teenage girl so that He could become human. An angel told the girl what was happening and who was in her womb. But...according to the story, the girl seems to have forgotten who her baby really is. The girl has additional children but they don’t appear to know that their brother is God,.....except for one named James but it takes him a long time to figure out who his brother really is. When James finally figures out his brother is God that had to have make him like the coolest dude among his groupies. He was so proud that his brother is actually God that he wrote a book about it and it’s still in the Bible. The plan apparently is for God to become human and then allow other humans to kill him in the most horrific way. But lots of other humans died this way too, so it wasn’t a unique death. So, God allows humans to kill him, and for a few hours God doesn’t actually exist. Can humans actually kill God or was God just pretending to be dead? We will never know. Anyway, God comes back to life, or stops pretending to be dead, we’ll never know for sure, and hangs out with humans for awhile to prove He came back to life....or to prove humans couldn’t really kill Him...whatever. Anyway, God’s plan was to make Himself the ultimate sacrifice for sin and that somehow allowed him to forgive sin......because the blood of sacrificed animals just wasn’t getting the job done. So God, in front of lots of folks, ascended back up into Heaven, but promised He’d come back in person real soon.....that was over two thousand years ago and mankind is still waiting for God’s return. Not to worry though, because a thousand years is but a day to God, so His return could be millions of years into the future, cause that would be like a week for God. So don’t fret, He will return....someday, because the Bible says He will, ya just gotta believe. And when God returns He is goanna make some really cool neighborhoods for all His believers to live in. And all they gotta do is stand around His throne and sing praises to Him.....forever. Now, how cool will that be?
  22. Red flags are red for a reason. The heart wants what the heart wants, but the heart is fueled by emotion. In this case your brain appears to be functioning rationally. Maybe you should let your brain make this decision and ignore your heart.
  23. At my age just remembering what I had for breakfast is often a chore,......or if I even had breakfast.
  24. Welcome to freedom. The journey out of religion is often long and treacherous but in the end it’s worth it.
  25. Mormonism vs. Christianity - The Differences Mormonism (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) was birthed in 1820 by a vision in which two celestial personages appeared to Joseph Smith claiming all existing churches were wrong, all their creeds were an abomination, and all their professors were corrupt. According to these personages, Smith had been chosen to restore—not reform—a church that had disappeared from the face of the earth. The Mormon doctrines that evolved from this vision compromise confuse or contradict the nature of God, the authority of Scripture and the way of salvation. Mormonism vs. Christianity - View of God First, while Christians believe that God is spirit, Joseph Smith taught, “God Himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!” Mormonism also holds to a plurality of Gods and contends that “as man is God once was; as God is man may become.” Additionally, the Latter-day Saints compromise the nature of the God-man, Jesus Christ. In Christianity, Jesus is the self-existent creator of all things. In Mormonism, he is the spirit brother of Lucifer who was conceived in heaven by a celestial Mother and came in flesh as the result of the Father having sex with the Virgin Mary. Mormonism vs. Christianity - Revelation Furthermore, in sharp distinction to orthodox Christian theology, Mormons do not believe that the Bible is the infallible repository for redemptive revelation. In their view, the Book of Mormon is “the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion.” Two further revelations complete the Mormon quad, namely Doctrines and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price. Doctrines and Covenants is a compilation of divine revelations that includes the doctrine of polygamy. Not until threatened by the federal government did Mormon president Wilford Woodruff receive a revelation relegating polygamy to the afterlife. The Pearl of Great Price is no less troubling. It was this extra-biblical revelation that was used by Mormonism to prevent African Americans from entering the priesthood and from being exalted to godhood. Mormonism vs. Christianity - Heaven Finally, while Christians believe that they will stand before God dressed in the spotless robes of Christ’s righteousness, Mormons contend that they will appear before heavenly Father dressed in fig-leaf aprons holding good works in their hands. According to the Latter-day Saints, virtually everyone qualifies for heaven. Murderers, unrepentant whoremongers and the world’s vilest people make it into the Telestial heaven; lukewarm Mormons, religious people, and those who accept the Mormon gospel in the spirit world typically enter the Terrestrial heaven; and temple Mormons make it to the Celestial heaven. Only those who are sealed in secret temple rituals, however, will make it to the third level of the Celestial kingdom, become God’s of their own planets. That the following beliefs of Christianity have been brought down through the ages as follows:The Bible is the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative written Word of God, penned by man with the leading of the Holy Spirit. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.Christians believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal, future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years. The blessed hope in the rapture of the Church at Christ's coming. The Church is all who believe in Jesus as their Savior. The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ. Good works alone will not get you into heaven, although good works should follow those who believe. We believe in water baptism by immersion. This is a public display of the authenticity of your repentance.Spiritual healing and deliverance comes by the redemptive work of Christ on the cross. Isaiah 53:5b says, "By His wounds we are healed."The baptism of the Holy Spirit is given to all believers at the moment of salvation. God desires us to have a personal relationship with Him and through His Holy Spirit, we communicate with Him.Christians believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit's indwelling. The Christian can live a holy life. The beliefs of Christianity state the resurrection of the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. Then Jesus will establish His eternal kingdom.
