  1. Welcome to this site Dan My wife is a Christian and I am a full blown atheist I wasn't when we first got together. So I know what you are going through. I think you are taking the right tack by not pressuring her and being patient. If one thing I have learned is you cant deconvert someone they have to do that on their own. We can all sow seeds of doubt but that journey is their own. This is a great place to find camaraderie and also to vent.
  2. I think to a certain extent being in the closet makes it difficult emotionally this does not mean that telling your relatives will speed up the process. There is a lot to consider when telling family and generally this will not make you more or less believe in an idea. With exceptions such as constantly being surrounded by the stimulus of your belief.
  3. I agree bible god is almost bipolar in the bible!?!?! it really makes logical sense when you view it through the lens that the bible stories are merely a collection of stories inspired by their surrounding cultures and myths.
  4. They completely messed it up those are the wrong ten commandments any Christian worth their salt knows these are the true ten commandments. And the LORD said unto Moses, "Hew thee two tablets of stone like unto the first, and I will write upon these tablets the words that were in the first tablets which thou brokest. 11Observe thou that which I command thee this day. Behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite and the Canaanite, and the Hittite and the Perizzite, and the Hivite and the Jebusite. 12Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee. 13But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their Asherah poles. 14For thou shalt worship no other god; for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God, 15lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee and thou eat of his sacrifice, 16and thou take their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. 7"Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. 18"The Feast of Unleavened Bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib thou camest out from Egypt. 19"All that openeth the womb is Mine, and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male. 20But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before Me empty. 21"Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest; in plowing time and in harvest thou shalt rest. 22And thou shalt observe the Feast of Weeks of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year's end. 23Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel. 24For I will cast out the nations before thee and enlarge thy borders; neither shall any man desire thy land when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year. 25"Thou shalt not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, neither shall the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover be left until the morning. 26The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in his mother's milk." That makes a hell of a lot more sense to me right?!!?!?
  5. why Is there outrage again? OH yeah because they cant kill them. /facepalm. If I also remember correctly there was also a fair amount of suspition in the mother direction....

    Left Vs. Right?

    Preach it brother!!!
  7. well Deva obviously this is a personal decision that will impact your life. I hope that everything will work out the best and as I can imagine cause some pain however temporal that might be. I am not really in a place to convince you one way or another but I will be rooting for you which ever decision you make
  8. I really only see people sticking to film because they like the process and not because it produces better results because it just doesn't
  9. I am rather blunt about it except to my grandparents. If religion comes up I just say I am an atheist and don't have a comment. I don't challenge people on their beliefs but if they ask me a question I give an honest answer. Family is different though that's up to you and how you feel about your relationships
  10. oh they do live for their neighbors alright there love is demonstrated by fucking them. Really hard in the ass as often and brutally as possible both physically psychologically and financially.
  11. "comfortable pretending that you have deep levels of expertise in textual criticism, but I doubt any of you reads a single ancient language, or has any formal training. I do not have this formal training, nor am I an expert" You obviously don't know a lot of us I have at least an entry level understanding of the Hebrew used in the old testament others on this board are even fluent in the greek and Hebrew used in the bible. There is a phrase I think is apt here "assumptions make asses of ourselves." You don't know me you don't know my background and you don't know anything about the majority of the members here. I would argue I have a deeper knowledge of the bible than what you have presented thus far. Not to mention many people on this board have an even deeper understanding than me. If you "You forget that I too have been an ex-Christian. I have felt my worldview crumble" than you could understand why you have been wasting your time quoting scripture please enlighten us as to what made you an ex-Christian what convinced you to deconvert and what convinced you to reconvert. I would suspect this could be a far more informative discussion than you making broad based assumptions of our scholastic understanding of the bible its history and the origins of Christianity. "The fact that they are uncritically swallowed by the cult of unbelief feels a lot like when I was growing up in church and pastors would just make up random things, and then they would get passed around from church to church with no investigation." If you understood what actually happens during deconversion you would understand why many ex-xtians who have deconverted recently just want something to latch on to however, when given time to let their anger subside will begin a critical analysis of arguments involved. I admit I had at one point fallen victim to this behavior however, it is important to note that this is a relatively short and temporary state for many. The internet has a way of making outdated comments applicable to ones current world view while at the same time being far from the truth of their current ideology. The likely hood of you answering any of my questions seems unlikely as you have not bothered to refute anything I have presented to you thus far.
  12. I have a feeling that his "ex-Christian" status was similar to mine before I deconverted in that he could not trust any denominations he grew up or was surrounded by as they were not extreme enough or adherent to scripture enough. He found one that fit his beliefs and relabeled himself a Christian I doubt he actually understands real criticisms of Christianity.
  13. -variations of Baptists including an almost all black church(gave me the best "spiritual experience") and some non-denoms -indoctrinated by my mother from a very young age. I can remember as early as 5 when I started thinking about death etc. I remember distinctly imagining that if I died I would cease to be however consciousness doesn't end with me and that another entity would exist it wouldn't be me but life goes on. Then church started and here I am. -Yes I believed I was an integral piece to the coming rapture -Yes I felt the presence of the spirit on a near daily basis "that buzy electrical feeling" -Christianity is a total brainwashing cluster fuck machine
  14. but he is just an innocent Christian filled with the loOOOOVE* of Christ cant you understand that!!!!! *cannibalistic hate filled human sacrificed war mongering love.

It's okay, he leaves our universe sometimes to go on vacation.

  17. fundy logic is something not to be under stood the dain bramage is to much.
  18. before I give an answer maybe it might be more pertinent to provide us with more of a background. there can be very good and valid reasons to lie. It is something children learn even as early as age 2. It has its purposes. However, there are consequences. Like having to maintain a lie people finding out the truth etc.
  19. Well personally I wouldn't mind if he actually responded to direct questions instead he just spouts off some assertion/Christian verse and ignores any challenge to his beliefs. I find it more entertaining to watch his thread get locked and watch him squeal with stuff like post #10 lol.
  21. "I’ll put it simply. Christianity is a transplant of the eyes and of the heart, by which we see the world differently by becoming incredibly different. I can no more take back Christianity than a man can take back his heart transplant. Christianity is an essential, permanent change to the disposition of the human person. It places an indelible mark on the soul and binds his very life to another. To undo Christianity and to commit suicide are synonyms. So what, is de-conversion impossible? In a word, yes. I cannot go back to living as a happy pagan. To not be a Christian is to be waiting for your bridegroom. But once the marriage has been consummated, and I am made Christian, the rejection Christ is an embrace of absurdity. To reject Christ can never be a leaving — for marriage is eternal — it can only be an adultery, and adultery brings no peace. It only tears in two. Thus, when I truly consider leaving Christianity, I realize that such an action could only be defined as a negative — a neglect of what is truly real and existing within my person." there are many problems with this statement the most obvious of which is Christianity is a permanent change. While I cannot prove a negative with the rest of the statement it is pretty obvious to disprove this statement. As I am sitting here typing as evidence of it /facepalm. Just really this whole quote is full of fail lol my eyes are bleeding from the obviously poor assertions made.
  22. Yeah I don't agree with her on a technical sense either as we are free to create our own words to describe a concept being discussed. For example I googled you meaning I used a search engine to look up something about you. Before this was accepted into a dictionary it still correctly identified the concept being discussed. Hence when we say deconvert even though it is not in a dictionary we are still correctly identifying a concept in which we are reversing to a state before conversion. Converting to atheism is incorrectly describing the process as we are not converting to a specific adherence of principles. Deconversion does not mean you are converting to anything specific Bhim for example deconverted to a previous state before his conversion to Christianity which was the religion of his ancestors. He didn't convert to it as this was a previously held position. The reason it is not in a dictionary is because in the English language which for the most part has been dominated by Christianity simply does not have a word to correctly identify the concept being discussed. This is how words are created when presented with a new concept that does not correctly have a term to describe a concept a new word is required. For example I microwaved my food today. I cant say I cooked my food in a fire burning oven. We created the word microwave to describe an observable frequency of a wave. If you explained this to someone from the 1600s they could not say its impossible to microwave something because its not a word. To sum it up she is technically wrong because she is misusing convert to describe a process that occurs. Our language allows for new words to be created to describe concepts which have not been identified yet.
  23. most obvious sign of trollage is that he cannot respond to one direct question. He just cant do it. Therefore we can reasonably assume he is either in over his head or he is an ass that the Gewd Loward gave the power to type. Where is end3? His topic posts are at least interesting and he tries to defend what he comes up with.
