I was raised and indoctrinated in an extremely conservative protestant Christian home. I was home-schooled, and taught a young-earth creationist view of the world. Despite this I eventually wound up studying physics and math in a secular university. Very gradually, I came to see that the Bible is not the inerrant, literal word of God. I lost my faith slowly, one piece at a time, trying to hold on to it all the while. Eventually, despite my best objections, I realized that the only reason I was still a Christian was because I had always been a Christian. From there it was a very small step out the door.
I now teach high school, and I try to help my students to form more effective ways of thinking and a more accurate picture of reality than I was provided with in my own schooling. Some days I think I'm successful. Some days, not so much.
I enjoy reading and writing, as well as movies and TV. I like to watch hockey, basketball and Canadian football. I also like chess. A lot.
I'm always happy to chat. PM if you'd like to know more.
