I'm back after 6 months away from ex-c. Here to offer help to newly de-converted ex-christians who are rethinking their politics. You don't have to become left-leaning, you can become anything you want. That's what intellectual freedom means and why we love it so much!
Things I have said in the forums:
"I was able to stop believing in god, the rainbow bridge, fate, homeopathy, and everything happening for a reason because I started caring about whether beliefs are supported by logic and evidence. I care so passionately about critical thinking and skepticism that I want to help others learn these skills so they too can get free of unsupported and unsupportable beliefs. I see that as part of what ex-c is here for and what it can offer people."
Things cool famous people have said:
"Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind, don't matter, and those who matter, don't mind." Dr Seuss.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Dan Millman
On deconversion from Christianity
"Take the risk of thinking for yourself. Much more happiness, truth, beauty, and wisdom will come to you that way." Christopher Hitchens 1949-2011
“The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off." - Gloria Steinem
"Faith means not wanting to know what is true." — Friedrich Nietzsche
“There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them.” ― Anthony de Mello
“I studied every page of this book, and I didn't find enough love to fill a salt shaker. God is not love in the Bible; God is vengeance, from Alpha to Omega.”
"I don't have the evidence to prove that God doesn't exist, but I so strongly suspect he doesn't that I don't want to waste my time.”
― Isaac Asimov
"Forget Jesus, the stars died so you could be born."
- Lawrence Krauss
“I am passionate about the truth. Passion is very different from fundamentalism.”
“Ultimately, totalitarianism is the only sort of politics that can truly serve the sky-god's purpose. Any movement of a liberal nature endangers his authority and that of his delegates on earth. One God, one King, one Pope, one master in the factory, one father-leader in the family at home.”
― Gore Vidal
“What I used to say to people, when I was much more engagé myself, is that you can't be apolitical. It will come and get you. It's not that you shouldn't be neutral. It's that you won't be able to stay neutral.”
― Christopher Hitchens
“f you think that American imperialism and its globalised, capitalist form is the most dangerous thing in the world, that means you don't think the Islamic Republic of Iran or North Korea or the Taliban is as bad.”
― Christopher Hitchens
Things Other Ex-Cs Have Said:
"Atheism [is] a conclusion reached after finding no evidence for gods. If you have evidence, please present it. I could change my mind, but remember that atheists have a higher standard of evidence than believers who find their evidence in emotion and confirmation bias." Florduh
"Religious faith is for cowards, the willfully ignorant, intellectual sloths, those with delusions of self-importance and/or those with emotional dysfunctions." sdelsolray
"When your entire perspective of yourself and your purpose and history and the universe comes from one book it imposes profound limitations on one's development." rach
"Christianity is especially shaky if the foundation of your personality is common sense and logic." midniterider
