  1. Today I am 46, where has the time gone

  2. I remember long ago another starry night like this

I have a visual astronomy hobby. To frequently, there are long time spans between observing sessions at dark sky sites. Still, the sky appears as majestic and clear each time.

Seems to be the same gang of less than 10 or so people.

  4. God: I call it a "kangaroo." It's like a video game deer-dog whose starting gift is a built-in pocket LOL *angels exchange worried glances*

What brand and type purchased Castie?

      Sounds interesting.

  6. I think it is very important to try and help and care for people.

    1. hockeyfan70

Agreed! And the good thing is you can do that without religion.

    2. hockeyfan70

And I think helping people is more authentic that way, because you're not doing it to either get another gold star on your crown in heaven, nor are you doing it to avoid punishment in hell. You're doing it because you like to help people.

Indeed. Amen brothers, I've got nothing else to add.

  7. Naturally Trump and Cruz are polling well, they speak the language of nutters and America is sadly filled with Red necks

I have had much better result over the last 3 11/12ths years knowing I had to put myself into positions to increase the likelihood of my needs and wants being met.

  11. Christianity: Make believe for people frightened to die

    1. sdelsolray

      Well, it's more than that.

  12. Although I am a day late, happy Birthday to Carl Sagan, who would have been 81 yesterday

  13. Picture how lovely the world would be if the Bible valued people, if it valued freedom ,science. If it said that you must never harm your fellow creatures, that slavery is always wrong. If it said in the plainest language that men and women were equal and that kindness to your friends and family was holy music to the ears of God.......

  14. I suspect that some morals are simply innate, and have nothing to do with religious doctrine. A mother cat will enter a burning building to save her kittens, a deer will allow herself to be spotted by a pack of wolfs and chased to draw them away from her child........ These acts of moral courage have nothing to do with Jesus on the cross

    1. ficino

Hey Castiel, agreed. Picking up on your other thread: what's your standard, to which you appeal to judge these actions good or moral?

    2. moanareina

While I agree totally...one could say that this actually is proof of God and his morals because God has put this into creation...and humans are the only ones who can use their so called free will...though I also find the question of ficion quite valid.

And is it morals or is it just saving your own skin and what comes from it...therefore pretty egocentric.

    3. ExCBooster

Given that humans are the most derived apes for distance running tool using cultural transmission and groupthink, I do think that some basic "morals" are only morals because they're heavily selected for, in our species. We can make group membership an abstraction, and transmit it culturally. That's the difference between us, and say, geladas, the monkey that lives in the next largest groups to us. We can make an abstraction of belonging to a group, so that if it's under th...

I don't watch Star Wars, but I like the sound of that. How about unbeliever knights versus religious nuts?

  18. Surely an infinite God ought to be as just as man. Surely no God can have the right to punish his children for being honest. He should not reward hypocrisy with heaven, and punish candor with eternal pain. Robert G Ingersoll

  21. One of the neighbours was waiting at the bus stop, so I literally drove round for ten minutes rather than park and speak to him, but when I got back, the bus was late and he was still there, so I had to say hello. I literally preferred to spend 10 minutes worth of petrol than say hello to someone in real life

It's not our fucking fault that Adam and Eve were completely innocent and didn't understand the idea of evil.

    3. mymistake

Yep, we owe God gratitude for all God has done. God has decided that denying him that gratitude is a sin that deserved death. ;)

Unless you have concrete evidence, hell isn't what /you/ think either. We've spend too much time and anguish concluding that hell is imaginary for you to come along and try to dress it up pretty.
